    Sadly now demodded :(

I can't decide if it's an upgrade to the Mopar or a downgrade to the LS1....

Oh, and Nude Pix of better half please!!!!!! (Sorry, she's pretty and I just couldn't help myself).

FWIW, I've had 2 Chargers (66 & 69) and a 67 Formula S Baracuda (all 383/727 cars - the Fish had 3.91 gears) so I know Mother Mopar somewhat better then the average gearhead...
    67 Camaro: K-K + 797-z (look it up), 454/Th400/4.10 12-bolt = 6mpg, PS/PDB/PW tilt, tach, gauges...

2005 Corvette LS2/M6 Magnetic Red Metallic (What else would it be?) w/ Cashmere interior

    2002 Z28: NBM/Tan, MTI smooth lid, smooth bellows, !AIR, !cats, 1-3/4" QTP SS LT's, 2-1/2" TD's with X-pipe, MagnaFlows dumped at axle, custom welded SFC's, MidWest Chassis body mount adjustable T/A, 3400 stall, 3.23 gears (was 2.73). Tuned: 343rwhp/357rwt (before TD's). Best: 12.559 @ 108+, 1.73 60' @ 3500' DA w/MT ET Street DR's.

    Carbon footprint? CLOWN SHOE!

The 440 was cool, badass,tq monster, great sounding, and classic. But the main reason for this swap is because I enjoy driving the truck, with the 440 gas mileage was the issue.

The LS1 should double the mileage, be more reliable, and believe it or not.... faster.

As soon as she hits the road and all the tunning bugs are worked out she's going to gateway 1/4 mile

440 = 8mpg (at best). LS1 should get you 12 to 14 (maybe higher - on the road should be much better)...

Oh, and pix before cash! I wasn't born yesterday ya know (more like the middle of the last century)...

Believe it or not the 440 got 9mpgs driving very easy. This was after fine tuning the speed demon that was on it.

At first I was going to put a 700r4 behind it but that would only help highway to maybe 12mpgs, town would still suck.

Nice. Open header LS1s always sound mean. So what kind of tranny are you going to use?

Neat swap for sure, interesting choice.
That 440 was murder on gas. My 454 1 ton truck gets 14 mpg with no overdrive and 3.73 gears. Not sure why your 440 couldn't at least do that.
An LS1 swap would be nice, but I couldn't tow my trailer anymore though

I went 14.70 at 92-94 mph with it too, not bad for a 5,375 lbs. brick

Can't wait to hear how it goes when you get to the track. It should make some heads scratch when you pop the hood.

That's awesome man, great job! Definitely one of the more interesting LS conversions I've heard of.

Is it just the video, or does the truck not rock when you rev it?

I used to have a 73 K10 shortbed with a mildy built 350, and when I reved it like that, the truck would rock pretty good. My friends used to love it, we all thought it was badass, lol.

Maybe the lack of low end in the LS?

Truck has poly mounts and Its not running perfect yet. o2's still need hooked up, alt,new plugs, wires.

I was slow reving it plus my suspension is very stiff in that truck. I guess we'll see how it does in the 1/4

My 440 had a speed demon carb on it with two acc. pumps, not really a fuel efficient. Plus 3.90 gears, a 727 tranny with a loose 2600 stall, a full time t-case thats heavy and very poor for mileage NP203. Not to mention the 8.0:1 compression makes a motor very doggy and less efficient. The 440 was a smog era motor and not right from the beginning, it was just smart to do a ls1 in it since my camaro has always responded great to mods and runs 10's N/A while getting 22mpg's. Also the cam that was in the stock 440 was around .420 lift, pretty much caused more restriction then airflow with that cam.

Ah, that full time transfer case explains alot of it right there. Our gears are about the same. I'm still running the original smog era 454 in mine too (79 chevy 1 ton pickup 2wd), with 8.5:1 compression. I just did headers, exhaust, Edelbrock performer cam and intake package with the original Q-jet back on top, although tweaked quite a bit, and the distibutor recurved. Everything else is factory issue with 102,000 miles on it.
Mainly did all that for more towing grunt, my trailer is 10,000 lbs. loaded. I didn't expect it to run so well on the drag strip,,,that was just a fluke, and only ran it because the car I towed out broke on the first time trial run, so I unhooked the truck for some bracket fun

I'm interested to see how this LS1 pulls your truck around.

Wow, nice build. This is making me want to rip the 318 out of my grand Cherokke and go LS1. I get 10 mpg with a tail wind, and barely push 240 horse.

No kidding, huh? I'd LOVE to have a LS in my '97 GC, especially as I only have the 4.0.

A 6.0 ZJ would be sick!!

I saw a build where a guy put one in his 'Niner, very cool build.
