Staggered.....Why?

a big thing about running a staggered set up is that it upsets the braking bias of our cars ....have large tires on the back give it more grip which helps improve braking in the rear..well stock our rears are fine..almost too good ...so if people get lightweight wheels and run a larger tire in the back it can make the car more squirrel during moderate to heavy braking ..


now personally since i went to my staggered setup my braking feels heavier and not as crisp or responsive ....most likely due to my heavy TTMs ..but none the less i basically went with staggered for looks .

Does'nt that cherry your rotors up front tho? my braking is like night/day improvement over the other sport tires I've tried in the past.

That's only going to happen if you never take your foot off the brake while driving xxxx miles.

Well I can't agree that the staggering is causing brake bias issues....that's caused by weight. Rear brakes are only using about 25%-30% of the overall braking. If the front tires are too skinny then you'll lose stopping grip. A heavier car obviously is going to take more time to react to the direction you're wanting it to go in.

But as with your car and having heavier wheels than stock (or what the car was designed for it's braking power)....yes you'll have "sluggish" brake response.

i am talking about Tire traction coefficient properties. So with me running a 315 drag radial out back compared to a street tire up front in 275 ......the rear tires will produce more traction and during braking the fronts will loose traction before the rears.

ive been trying to scheme a set up to keep my braking bias damn near stock but upgrade my braking system.

this is why i dont even think about doing a corvette big brake swap ...as it will throw off the bias .

i think i am thinking into this way to much...but i want my systems to function at their best ...not just look their best know what i mean ?

I have 315's in the back and 265's in the front.

Reason, well 315's in the back for traction, I didn't go 315's in the front because its extra rotating mass that isn't necessary. It handles great with the NT05's in the front.

I'm with you on that Shady, I want to upgrade my brakes and I can't help but feel that I'm looking into it far too much. But I also want to make sure i get it done properly, thats why I'm thinking I may just end up spending way too much money and getting the full wilwood setup front and back.
