Specifically maintenance and repairs yes. Its hard to not go to tire stores for some people to do tires because there pricing and selection is always gonna be better then a dealers would. Dealers just dont have the room for a multitude of tire selections. But that being said, I just dont trust the tire stores for reasons like loose lug nuts, loose well loose anything. The reason i dont trust them is because they hire people that are willing to work for 10 to 12 bucks an hour and these are typically people that have no real training or are very young kids, hack mechanics etc. If the tire stores in my area are an indicator, its best to stay away. But in the end, people are only human and mistakes are made no matter where you go. Doctors fuck up, dentists fuck up, contractors fuck up, pilots fuck up, bankers fuck up, teachers fuck up, police fuck up etc

A scary thing happened at my DEALER just last week, granted it was an oil change kid thats about to lose his job.......... He was wrenching on an oil plug with the car in the air and it was RUNNING! I have no idea whether it was getting tightened or loosened or what but i yelled to stop what he was doing, lower the truck, shut it off and take a break. Who knows what could have happened, but if you are wrenching on an oil plug and the engine is running, thats never a good sign.... The kid takes over an hour to change oil at that. I have no idea where he came from, pep boys probably.

Oh my boss has already said the kid is getting fired, i just dont know when. Super unprofessional on his part to just go out and say that though lol The kid works in another garage from where he said this to myself and bunch of other techs, but nonetheless, matters like that belong to be said behind closed doors, not in the middle of the shop. This was said like 4 days ago or so and the kid is still there. Just sitting on the fence with the crosshairs aimed right at him.

Sounds like the kid is trying to "milk" the work to get paid more. That NEVER works.

I had a wheel fall off right after taking it to the local chevy dealer called them right away. They sent out a couple guys and a tow truck. I was cool, they gave me a used car on the lot while they fixed the car. They also fired the kid who did the tire rotation.
Another time I had been in an accident and was picking up my z from
their shop. For some reason they took the t tops off. I get on the freeway and about 5 minutes later whoosh the top comes flying off. Called them immediatley and they replaced it no questions asked.

Back when I worked for Sears, there was a guy who had been arguing with his ex over their kid. Well, he replaced the front tires on a customer's Camry and ASSUMED they were tight. The customers were leaving the mall and RIGHT IN FRONT OF OUR SHOP, the front end dropped to the ground and one front wheel went in one direction, and the other went in the opposite direction. My manager told me he was giving the customer the installer's cell number and the installer was paying for the damage. The manager had a couple of guys go out with floorjacks to lift up the front end and re-bolt the front wheels on the Camry, bring the car back in the shop, tighten the wheels CORRECTLY and the guy was fired soon afterward. In this line of work, ya gotta stay focused at all times.

I know I have made mistakes myself shit, now when I do an oil change I make sure the o ring comes off with the old oil filter before I put a new one on haha. changing the oil on my old 97 firebird in the garage, just got done putting in brand new oil and everything cranked it up and immediately heard liquid hit the floor shut her off as fast as possible and got in their and pulled the old filter off and realized the old o-ring was still on their
, but thats how you learn is to make mistakes just hopefully when you make a mistake it doesnt cost someone their life. I learned that real quick like in the army I got tired of being bitched out all the time so I started double and triple checking everything I did and going back after my self, before going up to the nco and saying I am done haha.

stories like these are reasons why i hate to have other people work on my car. I even cringe to think of using a torque wrench without a torque stick to tighten down the lug nuts
