Sunset Orange Metallic- 1999 Camaro SS
Why is the Z28 the top of the line? Back in the 60's didn't the SS come with the bigger motor?

sold: 1999 firebird- 1998 Trans Am
this article is a repost but whatevs, no one else seems to remember it,
the reasoning for the z28 and ss, in 69 SS's had bigger motors but the Z's had better features/handling, into the early 70's Z's still had more features such as a front spoiler i believe? and a considerable amount more horsepower over the SS. until the the SS's demise in 73?
in years in which both the SS and the Z28 were availiable (1969-1972), the Z28 is typically more desirable, thusly chevy's reasoning for making the Z the 'top dog'
fourth gens really discarded this hierarchy.Last edited by justinmc978; 12-01-2009 at 08:08 AM.

The z28 was the top of the line, it wasn't until a bunch of executives who drive foreign cars botched up the totem poll.
This gives you some of the history

they were racing the 302's because of trans am rules, not because the 302 was a god-motor,
the next year in '70 the trans am series allowed for a bigger motor thusly the Z cars got good 'ole 350's
it was good on the strip for its size no doubt, they can rev to the sky, but compared to a built 396...Last edited by justinmc978; 12-01-2009 at 01:22 PM.
