I cooked some bacon and left the fat in a coffee can on the counter when I lived on a retired navy airstation in central california. The guy who bought the station would buy truckloads of rotten tomato peels and seeds, spread them out on the runway and dry them in the 110 degree summer sun. then he would sell the dried product as cattle feed. anyways, to make a long story short, the rats were unavoidable, and huge. they got into the grease and tracked it all over the kitchen. rat shit and greasy footprints up the walls, in the cabinets, crawling in and out of the trashcan, everywhere.
