Like someone else said, when you get behind the wheel, most people's experience goes out the window. Some people have already had the thrill, so they are a bit more mature and can contain themselves. Most want the thrill.
My dad is 60. I let him drive my car and he's probably the most responsible person I know when it comes to everything else in life, including his own vehicles. As soon as he gets in my car. All that shit goes out the window. I honestly can't blame him, he's a kid in a candy store.
Honestly, is there anyone in here that hasn't fucked up a car, monkeying around? You learn the most when you make mistakes and learn from them.
And no I don't think a teenager should have a fast car. I'd consider myself a responsible teen back then and even I know now, that I was better off not having a fast car. I did retarded shit in a 4 cylinder. Shit happens. You think you are invincible at that age ya know. Throw some alcohol into the mix and you got a disaster.
Just my opinion.

Yep... Parents bought me a 97 Acura 3.2L TL, and I can tell you it was way faster then I needed. I done some stupid shit in that... I remember I wanted a 87 T/A with a 305, I be leave (I know it was not a 350)... They said no way in hell, they even said no to the late 80's Monte Carlo SS... But yes to my stepdad's mom's 2-Door Buick with a similar engine to the T/A, I never got why I could not have the T/A but the Buick? My stepdad is very smart when it comes to cars also... But that Acura was my first car and it was a shitty car, I learned allot from it... I drove it for 2-3 years... But to tell you the truth, if I had a high powered RWD car as my first, I would have probably wrecked it, really damn bad...

I was the exact same way. I wanted a 3rd gen forumla and my parents knew they had an 8 cylinder. So I looked at Monte's and even a 8 cylinder cougar. Anything with a V8 and RWD, luckily I didn't get one.

White- 1995 Camaro Z28
Everyone is acting like I do burnouts on a regular basis, the "Wildest" thing I have done is turn at 23 mph without braking... I know my limits. I got the car mainly for the heritage and the acceleration.

I am a firm beliver in that age matters alot when it comes to driving skill... but it starts to go the other way when you get too old.
having said that If you worked hard to get the car you have then I think you deserve to drive it. Its YOUR car.
my list of cars goes like this
16-ford thunderbird supercoupe, pulley cai and exhaust.(pretty quick...ish?)
17- 97 Camaro RS
18-1991 Talon(400ishawhp) retarded fast for how young and stupid I was
19- 95 Jeep cherokee
20- 00 honda accord
hopefully 23-ZO6

No it doesn't matter. Whether a parent gives their freshly 16 year old a viper or not. Or the kid saves up, buys or builds.
If you sit yourself in a 400+ rwd hp car and mishandle and perform bad driving than that's all on the driver. Driving safely or not is the divers responisbiliy at any age. I know grown adults that do dumb immature shit while driving. But that's their own choice. Whether it's in a pos car or a nice fast expensive one.
If you're gonna drive 100+ miles down a highway; knowingly can hurt somebody, and you do. They are going to have to live with that and own up to their effects.
So no. Age doesn't matter. The car you drive doesn't matter. It's how you drive it.
