168 mph with my trusty GPS on top of the dash. All stock except that I have the car lowered 2" and a really stiff suspension. ( I-55 in souh Louisiana, elevated road with miles and miles of strights)

yes it will be screaming but it will get there. everything starts after 140 and goes all the way high.

Popular Mechanics did a top end test at the Bonneville salt flats using a firebird with very low (numerically) gearing, skinny tires and a 383 built by Lingenfelter. If I remember correctly they got it up to 200mph when it flipped. They interviewed an engineer with GM who stated that the car has an aerodynamic instability issue above 200 and wants to swap ends. I couldn't find the original article but I did find this summary on the LPE website.

PM also did an article in 2000 regarding a twin turbo Firebird that made it up to 307. That car looked more like a dragster than anything else but it did have a few production components.

well that i can believe. but there is no way a stock ta would flip upside down just from doing its top speed. which i think is about 185mph.

I got pulled over in Little Rock Arkansas at 154....i was in uniform(army) and taking my car from Ft. Hodd TX to Nashville for storage so they actually let me go but 154 was what i was clocked at with laser

youre telling me that if you remove the governor and go over 165 the car might shift into reverse....?

I was talking A4 compared to a 6spd. My A4 with 3.73 will hit redline alot sooner than a 6spd car woth 3.73.
Also if you had a 6spd and 2.73 or 3.23 with enough horsepower(twin turbo for example) you could get the car to keep pulling in 6th gear even with the wind resistance.

Fastest I got was 139 with the factory 3.23's and then clunking and a loud howling. Haven't got past 130 with the freshly rebuilt rear and 3.73's. The 6spd conversion will be in OCt so then i plan to see what this really can do.

why would a 6speed car ever have those gears? and youre talking a lot of "if's." but what does any of this have to do with what you said about the car shifting into "reverse?" thats what the posts you typed made it seem like.

she was definatley screamin alright...i had to gut my original LS1..cam bearings went bad. Instead of rebuilding, it was cheaper just to go with a new motor, so i ordered an LS6 crate motor from GM in michigan and had it dropped in. I upgraded all the internals also and thats it. 185 i think is about the stopping point tho..i still have the original 6-speed trans in my car (haven't had money to upgrade that yet) but it was hittin about 4700 RPMS in 6th...

i live an hour from little rock....haha....


but on another note i hit 150 in my mustang....pretty much stock car....it had stock gears then also so i was redlining 4th gear at this speed....it was starting to shake a lil so i shut it down....1990 gt

150 MPH OR 235KMH HERE and that was fast enough she seemed like she was still climbing I have an a4 3:23 gears

hit 150 last week according to my gps in my 99 ws6...had my caddy up to 147 and i must say the caddy was much more stable above 140 lol.
