An A.S. is what you get when you want to look good when applying to jobs that require only a HS diploma.

When you get your Bachelors you should be able to net a decent job that can pay for your Masters.

Any monkey can get an associates
Most people can get a bachelors
Few people go that extra mile for their masters

While a higher degree does not always show a higher intelligence or a greater ability to lead in a business situation a higher degree DOES show your aptitude to succeed and obtain your goals.

I have my bachelors in construction management. . I believe its considered technology and applied sciences . . . . To be an estimator, project planner, or project manager you have to have the 4 year degree, at least for every job opening I came across. Just having a bachelors can get you a job, no matter what its in.

You've probably heard this before, and I'm sure many will disagree, but education is the best investment you can make. I highly suggest it. That's just what I would do though.

If not, hopefully you'll be content with making 60k a year.

Oh definely, if folks wanna go to college hell go for it. My wife has two degrees from Penn State. I however dont have any degree and own a family business. Proof that one can use their hands and brain without college to succeed in life. HOWEVER, this is getting harder and harder these days. More and more we are seeing college kids getting out of school with less common sence and over all "know how" than God gave an earthworm. Only having "book smarts" that most times does'nt help with and usually does'nt apply to everyday life situations. But yeah nothing wrong with learning. Hell I'm gettin old and I'm still learning. Never hurts to have a good foot in the door in a particular field or fields.

My friend got his A.S. to get hired as a grunt at a very exclusive factory. He got in over people who had 15 years at ONE place. He had 0 experience in a factory what so ever, and started out making 18 an hour. An opening came up in the factory, he bidded on it, his degree got him the slot over people that had been there WAY longer than him. Last I talked to him he was making 24 an hour controlling mixtures sitting in an office.

So, hell yeah, A.S. is GREAT for HS diploma jobs.

Me, I am going engineer =)

i dont feel like reading the entire thread, so this has probably already been said,

but an associates degree is a good stepping stone to a bachelors anywhere

I got my associates in computer networking and it was worthless... I could have got all 3 jobs I had without it. And on top of that everything you leanred was useless as they trained you anyways.

9 years later I'm not even in the computer field, but at least I can say I have a college education. I make 3x's as much doing something I knew how to do before college lol.

Guess ya live and learn! Most people I know without an education make as much or more than people I know with a degree.

    I'm sorry...

But, you're a bright individual and I am sure you will find some way to make it work out for ya.

Maybe it's a sign that bigger, better things are coming your way

I don't see the point in college for a lot of jobs.... most companies are going to train you the way they want things done.

Gotta say that I wouldn't bother hiring a 2 yr, or even a Tech training program (like ITT and whatnot). I can bet a B.S. for the same money, and at least know they can do a bit of math.

I know, it's obvious when the average take home in the nation is what, 43k a year? Probably less.

However I would like to at the least make as much as my father, yet reaching that won't take away my aspirations for being as successful as I can.
