Of the 3 times I've been arrested, I've never had them read to me.
And, thinking about what they say when they read you your rights, doesn't really matter. They just wouldn't be able to use "anything you say or do" against you in court. If they did, then this might be relevant.

The police do not have to read your rights to you upon arrest. This is set forth in Miranda vs Arizona. (as the other post stated). That immediate rights read to you stuff is TV bullshit. Only during a custodial arrest and interrogation must your rights be read to you.

+1 And as I have said to people for years... calling cops liars is a bad defense!

It shouldn't be; of the 3 traffic citations I have been given (the most 'trouble' I've ever been in with the law) two of them went to court and the cops lied their asses off. They lied egregiously to make me sound like some crazy person. After that and talking to some of my own friends that are cops I have decided that it's much better to not trust them (not my cop-friends, all other cops that I meet) and to bet from the get-go that they will use lies and insane exaggerations as part of their process. This is what happens when you give too much power to people that lack the education, intellect, and sound morality to wield it. Don't look for it to change either.

I do not disagree with your statements... my only point was that after 17 years as a criminal defense attorney I have found that calling cops liars (whether they are, or not) is generally a bad defense. And yes, I have caught them in lies where they were clearly trying to bolster their cases. The system, and the people in it, are imperfect. Simple fact of life...

I'm not reading all the responses. It is a fruitless act on my part because I have first hand real world experience here and know with an absolute certainty two things about 90% of the cops out there.
1. They will lie their ass off.
2. They are pussy boys who got the shit kicked out of them in high school and now have a gun and a badge and are getting even with the world for having their head shoved in the toilet when they were 15.
3. Judge will take their word over yours/your friends everytime regardless of the truth.
4. The other 10% are good people who genuinely wish to serve and protect.
So when questioned by the cops or any interaction with the cops. Be cool. Yes Sir and No Sir. You will be OK. Act like an asshole and they will beat the shit out of you and say you fell down a flight of stairs and they tried to stop you with their nightstick and that is how it got stuck up your ass and you broke your jaw/arms and legs. And they all will swear Officer Gomez read you your rights. You just don't remember.

I'm not a cop hater but my experiences have all been very negative and one of them scary. I posted a few posts above Sarge. Mathematically my experience shows that there are real problems; 2 out of 3 incidences?
You are proving him right on point 2; why the aggression? A trained professional should be able to blow all of that off. People are going to be rude and ugly to you, it should be your focus not to let it cloud your judgment.

They only have to issued before interrogation. If they arent asking you any questions they dont have to mirandize you.
