I watched Tyson fight and he was certainly a great puncher with unbelievable strength but so was George Foreman in his prime. When Foreman and Frazier first fought, Frazier was so heavily favored it was on live television (at the time title fights were always on what was called "closed circuit tv). Foreman made a fool our of Frazier that day.

I also watched Leon Spinks defeat Ali when I was in college and I remember at the time I was thinking that this defeat would endable Ali to come back and bury Spinks, and that is exactly what he did.

Tyson, fraxier, and Foreman, in my opinion were better fighters than Ali, but Ali was a better boxer and Ali knew more about the game/sport than anyone else and as such he could figure out ways to win a fight against an opponent of superior strength, superior stamina, or superior punching power. Ali was the real deal and he had it all... Strength, quickness, intelligence, power... He had it all and I think it will be a long time before anyone can lay claims to being a better boxer than Ali.

I wonder how good Ali could have been if he had the availability of modern training methods?

    Sadly now demodded :(

1 thing to remember if it goes all the way: Back in the day they fought 15 rounds vs today's 12 round fights.

I still vote for Ali though.

yes ali had ring generalship. Tyson not so much. I also wonder what he would be capable of with modern training methods. But ali in prime from his era and tyson from his, i give it to tyson.

Mike Tyson was a tool, he was used to make boxing popular, much like Kimbo Slice was being used in the MMA world, throw him scrubs and let him destroy them. When it came to real competition his true skills are represented. An old washed Evander beat the crap out of Tyson, a big no-name Buster Douglas KOd him, an out of shape Lennox Lewis, on the way to retirement destroyed him. Ali would destroy Tyson hands down.

    I'll second that!!

Lennox Lewis/Ali in their primes would be a better fight, but I'd have to give it to Ali!

I vote Tyson for 1 reason. If tyson hit him once it was over. Ali was great around the ring but he would get hit at some point and it would be over. Tyson laid people on their backs with one shot.

In their day, Foreman and Frazier were also considered great punchers. Ali fought Frazier three times, won two of the fights, and got clipped only once... And yes he went down..... Foreman could nail him.

The question is not whether or not Ali would go down if Tyson unloaded and connected, but first whether or not he would actually get tagged, and second... Whether or not he would get up. Ali had big brass ones and he actually got up after Frazer put him on the canvas... If you ever see the pictures following the first Ali Frazier fight you will notice Frazier looked far worse than Ali and went to the hospital to recuperate.

Frazier almost died on the way to the hospital. Both fighters took such a beating neither were the same after that fight.

    Thumbs up

I have no doubt that this fight would be over before they actually stepped in the ring- as Ali would use psychological warfare and totally take Mike out of his intimidation game. Mike seems to have had trouble in his career with tall rangy fighters (Lennox Lewis, Buster Douglas) and people who stood up and bullied him back (Evander Holyfield.) For those of you who say Tyson by TKO seriously underestimate Ali's chin. Dude was down 3 times in his whole career, never been knocked out, and noone has fought harder punchers at Heavyweight. Ali had faster feet, hands, unquestionable chin, heart, and stamina. I think Tyson would come out and try to blow Ali out, Ali weathers the storm and stops him late.
