I will tell you what man, i had an ultra z hood on my z and at higher speeds you get shit loads of power from the ram air. It smashes the air right into your lid.

i also found some sweet chrome LS1 emblems on ebay that looked sweet on the side of the scoop.

You can see what my hood looked like in my profile pic

The air box and hood was one of the most notable "bolt on" mods by the way

My opinion on the matter is, how much are you willing to pay? I spent $450 on the hood including shipping and another $450 for labor and paint, and the end result it looks like SHIT! So I would say if your not willing to spend 1.5g I would reconsider. I will try and post some pics of my Camaro with the sunco style cowl hood on it.

Its not a huge difference, but at high speed there is a noticable difference no doubt about it. My LT1 definatley pulled better in higher rpms. That alone puts it ahead of the cowl hood in my book. If your going for looks the SS hood no question. If your going for performance no hood can touch the Ultra Z (with air box). And like someone else said the cowl is cool for older camaros, not this one. The cowl looks out of place on these cars too me.

VFN, but I'm partial to the brand. Great quality and customer service. We have used door and decklid from the and never a problem they wouldn't remedy. My $.02

i have a pontiac ram air style of 93-02 on my 00 z28 and after putting on a professional products intake i have to cut the inside of the hood all up to fit my supercharger, really not cool... any of these 2 hoods have alot of clearance?

VFN seems to have good clearance with the 3" hood.

I'd go with the cowl hood. You can pick one up for just at $600 new not sure of the other. Have cowl hood on my '78 chevy pu and want to put one on my '99 Z28

I like the Ultra-Z hood, or the SS hood.... I personally don't like Cowl hoods, especially on the LS1's

I fought this battle myself, I caught a group purchase with VFN (PM for details) but I ended up with the Sunoco w/o line. For some reason the picture is not posting, here's the URL if you want to take the time to see it.

While the Ultra Z hood will give you a ram air effect, the Sunoco does indeed suck cool air into the engine bay. When I use washer fluid or driving in the rain, you can see the suction at the bottom of the windshield at the cowl opening.

Ok that version of the cowl hood doesn't look too bad lots better than some of the square boxy looking cowl hoods i've seen for these cars. I don't know about it sucking in cool air into the engine bay. I ain't buyin that one lets just say it looks good. It may help extract some of the under hood temp but thats about it, either way it has no effect on performance where as the Ultra Z provides a performance gain.
