2001 Z-28 A4 NBM- 2002 35th anni SS M6#1696
because the transmission is not bolted to the back of the engine in a vette,
trans is mated to differential.. damn torque tube. Trans is wedged between /behind the 2 gas tanks.
and corvette people...... nevermind
everything is easier in a camaro from basic maint. to major rebuilds, of course..that is just my $.02.

if you where talking about a 05 and up Zo6 i would be more optimistic.
but from an 00 ss to an 01 Zo6 with more miles.....i would keep the ss,
and start saving for the 09 vette with the ls9..

camaro, less miles and u can build it to spank vettes. plus u still have 4 seats and the 01 z06 was the less powerful version of the LS6. its funnier when u beat a vette to cuz the owners get really pissed

Yes, the 'Vette Tax is BS but it does exist! But, comparing the two cars from the driver seat is going to be very different. I've never driven a C5 but I've heard they are a superior car in terms of handling. If you like to track / auto x your car then the Z06 would be the natural choice. You can beat the hell out of it and it will ask for more. Who gives a f*ck if it's an '01, if you plan to mod it at all (and we know you will), it won't matter anyway.
The best thing to do is test drive it and see if the difference is worth it. You are accustomed to a high HP car so the important differences should pop out pretty quickly since you won't be as distracted by the power.
If you just want something to brag about or boost your ego, just keep the SS. LS1 Camaros command a lot of respect, and the SS is really something special.
There is a stigma with Corvette owners, many think they are invincible and the envy of all, etc. The same kind of guy could just as easily buy a Porsche Boxter or a BMW 3 series. The kill forum proves this time and again. One big selling point for me anyway is that there is a great Corvette enthusiast community to get involved with, they wave at eachother on the roads as non-discriminately as motorcyclists do. Whereas I like to wave to V8 F-bodies only. Not sure how important that is to you though.
I think both the SS and the Z06 were built to be enjoyed! Either way you go, drive the hell out of it. You only live once.
You can't go wrong with either choice from where I'm sitting. Let us know what you end up doing!Last edited by hoss 2000 z-28; 05-22-2008 at 01:28 PM.

Black- 2002 Camaro SS M6
i say keep the camaro.
if it were a c6 z06 i would opt for the vette, but i say camaro, i think they look better than vette's in that age, and they can easily be just as powerful for a fraction of the price of a vette.

Jetstream Blue Metallic- 2008 Z06 Corvette
I have a built LS6 in my car and it's all too easy to kill those Z06 Corvette's, and I do. I would actually rather have the regular Vette because I've never been able to get around that funky rear window, I know all the benefits of the Z06, and the weight reduction of that window.bla bla bla, but as stated above, it's just too easy to build the LS series engines to whatever HP ratings you're looking for, so I'd say, for know...keep the SS and enjoy the looks on their faces as you smoke them, it's one of my simple pleasures in life!
