I've had my 60gig for acouple of years now. I don't how every got along with out it. Last year it crapped out on me while I was out at the track for clean up. I thought the battery just ran down. Plugged it in for awhile and nothing. I took it home and opened it up and the tape from the battery came unplugged. I plugged it in and it worked. I had to download the software into it and reload all of my music, all 6,442 of them. I have about 50 more CD's and 20 more gigs of music I have to put on Itunes. I'm just lazy and I already have 50.6 days of music on it already.

Just a suggestion for why your cd's are taking so long to load. Go into edit>preferences>advanced tab>importing tab>see if the box for "use error correction when reading audio cd's". If it is checked, it damn near doubles or triples the amount of time to upload your cd. Uncheck it. It is meticulously reading your cd and trying to read through any scratches you may have on your cd.
I have read that rockbox has caused issues with the iPod. Although this may be more with the HD ipods vs. the flash ipods which is what you have in the nano.

You might want to change that 256 to 128. The 256 will give you great quality, but will eat up the amount of space the file is going to take. You will still get great quality out of the 128. This may be what is causing it to run so slow.
