No way is any oil going 15K. If you read their "claim" it sez under normal conditions. When they define normal conditions on their website you'll see nobody on the planet falls into that category. Everybody will fall into "severe service" category which they "recommend"5K or maybe 7.5K intervals. 99.9999% of all LSX motors will not come close to much past 5K on any oil as you will have fuel/contamination issues. Just how GM V8's are built.

“Think with your dipstick”

“Think with your dipstick” or have a monkey change your oil… Now that’s marketing we can sink our teeth into, LOL.

Well I wonder if I should include this Castrol Edge in our shootout. By the way guys.... Corporate Amsoil is behind the LS1.COM Oil Shootout now. And thank you CompSyn for your efforts there on our behalf. I owe them the write up (guidelines) and we should be able to get started. Stand by for the "rules" very shortly folks.....

3K is way too often to change your oil with modern cars and unleaded gas.
In the old days (before unleaded gas) 3K was the change interval because it
was the lead in the gas that fouled the oil. Sloppy engine internals didn't help.
Modern engines running unleaded gas and a normal, non heavy duty driving
style allow longer change intervals. I changed every 5K on my '82 Z28 and
'77 C10. Both were sold still running OK at 180K miles. The '82 even passed
the California smog test. The truck had emissions issues not related to oil.
Synthetic oils can run longer than conventional oils, they say.
All of that said, I still change at 5K intervals and use Mobil 1. I like to keep my
cars a long time.

OCI is never determined by mileage.

Thanks Sarge
Thanks Sarge. It really wasn’t that hard to get Amsoil, Inc on board with this oil shootout. Personally, I was very pleased at how the Technical Director at Amsoil, Inc took the time to not only listen to Sarge and I about the LS1.com motor oil shootout proposal, but he was also willing to offer up ideas as to make the testing process even more viable. That is to the already solid testing procedure Sarge had been working on. From this experience, it is proof positive that Amsoil, Inc. is a stand up company that backs their products 100%, and is not afraid of an honest competition.
In addition, since you brought up the idea of adding Castrol Edge to the shootout, it might be sporting to add Valvoline SynPower to the line up as well. Guess it depends on how many months one would want this shootout to go on…
