Oh come on now you newbies. Second page and no one has mentioned this...
LT5
This Chevrolet LT5 V8 engine (5.7 liter - 350 cubic inch), has an all aluminum block and cylinder heads, 4 overhead camshafts and 32 valves.
Some LT5 History... Engine design was a cooperation between General Motors and Lotus. And, because of the small volume of LT5 engines, GM went outside their own production facilities, to find someone to build the LT5. Ultimately, Mercury Marine was chosen, because of their reputation in building aluminum engines.
More ZR-1 LT5 Trivia... On March 1st & 2nd, 1990, on a 7.712-mile oval owned by Firestone Tire, near Fort Stockton, TX, three 'World Speed Records' were set, using a ZR-1 Corvette w/LT5 engine: The 24-hour top-speed endurance record @ 175.885 mph, the 5,000 kilometer record @ 175.710 mph and the 5,000 mile record @ 173.791.

The turbo you may have used lags, not the engine itself. The whole motor is forged I havent heard of any breakage problems? Only the opposite, the engine being strong. Perhaps the tune was bad in your case? My friend had a red top in his 240 and the thing had hardly any boost lag at all, with the stock turbo cranked up it still put down 287 horses at the wheels and the car was very light, he removed most of the interior save for the 2 front seats. He kicked the snot out of that car on the regular and the engine always ran great! I guess theres always gonna be someone that blows something up. Heck people blow up 5 liters and ls1's but that doesnt make them shitty engines.

Chev. small block. Various incarnations for 43 years from 265 cu. In. up.
GM 3.8 v6 it may not be a racers engine but a very good one.
i'm esp. fond of the old Ponitac bigblocks, I had one in a GTO in 1964.
