Made sense to me when I looked into it. We used to run a dirt track car back in the mid-90's equipped with a K&N air filter and breather. We also had a pre-filter that encircled the air cleaner element and breather. On our first tear down, we found the motor full of dirt and the bearings were all scored. That ended the whole oiled filter thing for me.

I hear ya! 74 would be a good cut off point
I'm actually getting pretty attached to the Camaro too. More than I thought I would. I really never thought I would own a car this new. But, I'm finding it has its perks
My heart still belongs to the classics though.

Hugger Orange/W stripes- 1999 Z28 M6
I bought mine from CompSyn and have only good things to say about it. The fit in the box is super tight (a good thing), and I'm convinced it is an improvement over the oiled K&N I used to run. If you are running a stock filter right now, do yourself a favor and buy the Amsoil air filter. A slight performance improvement over the K&N, and a whole lot easier maintenance with no out-of-pocket expenses for cleaners and more oil. That alone makes it a better deal. The K&N is good, but the Amsoil is a bit better (and oil-free).
