Kooks is not made to run all the way up to the manifolds/cats. You would have to fab that on your own.

The Bassani kit however is made to run all the way to the manifolds/cats.

Kooks headers + Kooks true duals = $$$ for exhaust. But they sound amazing!

Talking True over axle duals w/ x-pipe and transverse muffler

I fabbed these up in my garage, used kooks off road y, cut and spliced into magnaflow 3" x-pipe went over the axle, like the old pre-74' f-bodies, then into 3" magnaflow transverse muffler, also added resonators before magnaflow 3.5 " double walled tips. Also i did fab up a custom torque arm that mounts into original bushing but centered over axle, works great. Tried a couple different set ups using y-pipe,just didn't like the results, this set up sounds awesome,a definite attention getter any where i go. Running new comp cam 235 int./243 exh., Lift .621/.624 w/cnc ported 243 castings, this combo works great.

Yep, you basically built a system that was used from 67-81 on F-bodies and 68-74 on X-bodies.

    Nice job.

How small pipes can you use without beeing to restrictive for a stock 2001 ls1?

I need as much ground clearance as possible.

i used 3" off headers then into 3" x-pipe then merged into 2 factory 2 3/4" pipes for both sides, just reversed the bends for drivers side, tuck up nicely under car.

I have QTP headers with the QTP Y-pipe with cats. I need cats for inspection purposes. Is there a TD kit that would go over the axle and re-use my cats. I have clearance issues now with that y-pipe if I could get TD's and solve my clearance issues it would be great. I would also like to add a muffler, I don't have one now and its a little raspy at WOT.

    Any input is appreciated

Texas speed and kooks are the only guys making true duals for our cars. The texas speed kit hooks right to the headers and has no cats and dumps before the axle. Kooks makes a complete true dual system that comes with or without cats but unless you buy their headers the kit will have to be modified to fit the qtps. If u want to reuse your stuff your best option is to have custom system built reusing parts of the ypipe/cats.

Bassanni also makes true dual exhaust systems for these cars, it's priced cheaper than the Kooks setup, and not only that, but it works with either stock manifolds, long tube headers, and still uses a transverse muffler in the stock location for excellent ground clearance.

The Kooks is certainly a very nice setup. Bassani is cheaper but I wouldn't say it's still cheap However it's also a very nice setup. When you get into these real dual systems that reach the back bumper, it's an expensive proposition. The only cheap way to go would be to dump it under the middle of the car like Texas Speed has, but we all know the obnoxious noise, drone, and resonance that creates.

I just feel lucky that there are a couple companies out there that actually make a "bolt on" true dual system that is mandrel bent. Otherwise you're stuck going to a shop and creating something from scratch, and 99% of the time it will be crush bends because most shops won't have a $30,000 mandrel bender.

Forgot about bassani. Usually dont think about them since their kit only 2.5". Which is plenty if you dont plan going all out with mods.

I personally have the Kooks TDs which are very nice and I never even considered the Bassani because of my current and future goals for the car. I can't currently comment on sound, ease of install, etc. since I have not installed them yet but according to Kooks they will support 1200+ hp.
