Hey Rob, what up!!! Saw you in here and thought I'd say yo. So yo-o.

I switched to synthetic when the miles were around 800 and my Camaro consumes oil too, not as much as yours though. Anyway I talked to Top Flight Corvette (can't think of the guys name) and he told me that the rings never got a chance to seat and that I should put regular cheap oil back in and run it for 3,000 miles. The synthetic doesn't do a good job of seating the rings. I never tried it but he said some of his customers have done it and it works. Maybe a cheaper alternative than tearing your motor down.
