To me a car needs to be able to do more then just run a quick quarter mile time. They need to be able to stop and to corner as well. Throw out the Corvette 'cause in my opinion a two seater is not a muscle car in the true sense of the phrase. That being the case its hard to beat a fourth Gen TA. They come from the factory halfway decent and they are also a very good platform with which to mod Suspensions and drive trains. I do have a special place in my heart for the rather unique ZL1 '69 Camaro. I also like the Superbird and Daytonas/Chargers because they take me back to when I first became interested in NASCAR. But this is my all time fav "muscle car era" vehicle:
not really considered a muscle car because it is not a 442 but this is my baby and it has a 455/TH400 and 3:42 gears/Posi and more goodies to come.Last edited by Jims455; 12-29-2006 at 05:48 AM.

BlackCherry- Bad Ass 67 Camaro / 2010
Naturally Power is the most important factor in a Muscle Car.
But as you can see, we all differ due to the BODY style.
I prefer the Camaro and the Corvette over nearly all the others.
There are some great pics in this thread! Thanks!
But I still would go for a 1st Gen Camaro. And that 69 ZL1 Camaro is a damn fine car.
A Plain Jane that was slightly modified (97 LT1)

I really like the ZL1 and would have voted for it but.....for an all around great performing muscle car I had to go with the modern day WS6 (of which I happen to own an '02). The car needs to be able to deliver the goods in more ways then one. It needs to be quick, it needs to carve, it needs to stop and it needs to be reliable. The ZL1 may have only been very good at one of these aspects. Also the new gens get very good gas mileage (comparativly speaking) and are way more pleasent to drive. Last of all there are millions of late model TAs but only, what, 69 ZL1s?

the ZL1 Camaro,
"
1969 was a brief window in time where model proliferation, engine options, and bulls-eye styling converged to create some incredible Camaro combinations. By far, the most exotic was the ZL1 Camaro. Sixty-nine were built and each came with two things that would guarantee its place in legend and lore: a 430hp all-aluminum 427 (a staggering $4,160 option) developed for Can Am racing, and a price tag over $7,000 (a basic V-8 Camaro was less than $3,000).
E.T. 13.16 at 110.21
Engine ZL1 427
Transmission four-speed
Axle 4.10:1
Source High Performance Cars, July ’69
Good Points: 427 fire-breathin’ cubes with the weight (and sleeper appearance) of a six-banger. How sweet it is.
Bad Points: Could induce anxiety attacks, heart arrhythmia, palpitations, sweating, chronic wallet fatigue syndrome, and 11 different kinds of sleep disorders.
Fans Say: God bless COPO. Critics Say: Gee, a Camaro. Never seen one of those before!
A Legend Because: Imagine an engine option that cost more than the car itself—and was worth it! High water mark of the big-block—the ultimate Camaro."
