should i ditch the volant for an MTI lid
yes or no. i keep hearing bad stuff about the volant. especially with the ram air hoods.
i was thinknig of just putting it on EBAY and getting an MTI lid with the cold air package.
advice, opinions?

The only negative things you should hear are that it's more expensive, sometimes more difficult to install, and the filters can be a pain to clean and oil. I own a Volant that I purchased off of eBay for less than what a new lid would cost and installing it was a breeze. I had zero issues with it and didn't even have instructions. And I don't mind cleaning and oiling the filter from time to time, although you do have to be careful how much oil you use since excess oiling can dick up your MAF. But, it's not rocket science.
The Volant will perform at least as well as a lid, maybe better (marginally). There are a few posts here and there that compare lids and Volants, but I can't say I've ever really seen anything conclusive. There is a post I read a while ago where someone made a Volant style intake (without the box) and did dyno comparisons side-by-side and the Volant setup consistently delivered a few more ponies than the lid setup. But... a few ponies here or there aren't really going to show up well on a dyno. Those kinds of differences can easily be attributed to other minor differences (temps, humidity, engine heat,...).

if you can get a lid and save some money, go for it. i don't think you'll lose anything by switching over. esp if you get a FTRA or SSRA with the lid you could prolly pick up a couple hp.

you could probably sell the volant for more than you paid, and that would cover the lid and a bit more. just a suggestion. Personally I am looking for a clear MTI lid cheap. I think 130 is a bit steep myself.

Hey guys,
So which do you think flows better the fast toys ram air, SLP flowpack, or the dual cone volant? I am getting one or the other, just don't know which
Anybody got any real numbers...dyno results? or time slips comparing the two?
I know what the manufactures claim, and it's always the "can make up to" thing.

I am leaning toward the volant. Looking at the opening where air is drawn in on the fast or slp cold air, it just doesn't look that big. Although it's source is cooler air from outside the engine bay,it has to travel up the duct, and thru an air box.
With the volant ,you got two big ole honkin cone filters going pretty much straight into the throttlebody. No lid,no turns to make. And you will get fresh air in from the front of the hood when going down the road.

all i know is that these cars are made to perform air from undernieth. the lid works great never used the volant, but with the volant you cant have a secoanday air opening. soo if a lid and a volant are about the same and a volant wont except a fast toys RA, and a ftra was proving like 10+ hp i say a lid and fast toys is a better combination IMO
