Around 165 MPH they'll hit the governor before it runs out of power.

Pewter- 2002 WS6 Trans Am
Low 150, I think, or mid-160s for a WS6. I got a stock 1999 up to 145 MPH once, then backed off. It was still picking up speed.
Damn, that was scary. They are still looking for me on I-78 in western NJ.

All the LS1 f-bodies are set at the same for 6 speeds and z rated tires. A formula and Trans am will go just as fast as a WS6. Same for Z28 and SS.

so if the governor stops it at 165 is there any way to increase the stop speed above 165? is it even good for the car to go above that? obviously they limit it for a reason..

but that can potentially damage something right? they have to limit it at 165 for a reason, so is there some aftermarket parts you would need to get before disabling the speed limiter?

no, They do it for federal regulations and so you dont kill yourself. Just make sure you have the tires that are rated to go that fast (ie: Z rated tires) I really don't know too many places where you can get up that high and maintain it for very long anyway. But hey I'm the idiot with a SS camaro in the slow lane always doing the speedlimit anyways.

whats the point in the governor. once u hit 165, ur dead if anything happens, so it doesnt matter if ur goin 165 or 300mph.

V6 Firebirds will reach in excess of 130 mph (4th gear limited) with the Y-87 performance package and a 5-speed transmission, whereas V8 models that had Z-rated tires had a speed limiter set to 167 mph.
Top speed is governed at 160 mph in SS models, 108 in Z28s, unless you opt for speed-rated tires.

Okay so basically the LS1 f-body with speed rated tires will do inbetween 155 and 170 if you have the space.

Just take it out and see how fast it will go. If it tops out before you run out of nerve, then worry about it. If not, call it good!
I've had mine for nearly 4 years and have not exceeded 150 but the car was willing.

Where did you go that fast in our area? There's a stretch of the George Bush Turnpike from Plano to Garland where you can maybe get that fast if no one else is on the road. Or LBJ from the Hi-5 to around the Tollway. I usually run out of road or into traffic by the time I get in the 120's.
