painting calipers-tips

hey everybody, i'm gonna be painting my calipers pretty soon and i am going to go with hi temp primer, paint, clear coat, and decals. i am thinking red calipers and black frame on the NBM car. any suggestions or tips??

Keep in mind. Proper prep is key in everything. Even in cases such as this. You want to make sure you get the calipers cleaned up good and I would also suggest using a small power sander to smooth the surface good and remove the machine seams. It took us about 9 hours to do mine. We covered the car good with plastic to prevent any over spray from getting on the finish and taped it off under the fender wells. To avoid having to bleed the brake system, we removed the calipers/brackets and set them on blocks at all four corners. After getting the calipers/brackets all cleaned up, we sprayed on three coats of clear adhesive primer. Once we did that, the brackets got three coats of black engine enamel and the calipers got three coats of red. Once that was dry, we applied the decals I had to the front calipers and then sprayed on three coats of clear. Once all was dry, we put the calipers back on. Below are some photos of the finished product.

No problem. I forgot to mention, we also used a wire brush on the calipers after power sanding the surface just to help get rid of any leftover surface scaring.

What type of clearcoat did you used? and where did you buy it? that's all I need to start my proyect, I already have the whole kit but the clear.

Duplicolor brand is what i used (spray on). You can get it at most any Pep Boys, Advance, O'Reilly's or Autozone stores.

I just did my rear calipers to match my front z06 red ones, I went with red for the caliper itself, and black for the bracket. I used G2 Performance or something like that. 39.99 a set. My dad is not very happy with me though...I spilled the epoxy paint afterwards on the garage floor. Nothing will take it off. Someone want to rent me a sand blaster?

IS the clearcoat high temp. or just the regular they sell at the store? cause I asked and they said that they don't have any high temp. clearcoat.

Engine High Temp clearcoat would work the best. But if you use actual good caliper paint like VHT you won't really need a clearcoat

All of the Duplicolor I used is high temp engine enamel, even the clear coat. Don't think specifically of the clear coat as to protect from heat. Also think of it as protection from the potential chips or nicks to the paint. I strongly suggest to anyone painting their calipers, use it.
