Looking for a Drag project.
Well, I'm sort of in a competition with a few local people for a drag race. We are not allowed to use our main cars, or not borrow anyone elses. We made it where we have to have bought the car AFTER we made the deal(which was a few days ago). Some of us are just richer than the others, and some of us can just work more, so we made a budget of 3k in costs, counting labor.
So, I have a few ideas on what I would like to do and all, but obviously what I can do myself will benefit myself. I'm going to try to make a fiberglass pin-on hood to save some weight, and tear out the carpet and such for the obvious weight reduction.
Now, I do have a autobody shop that I can use which is my college Autobody Repair class. So putting on things such as headers would be free, but obviously I'll have to buy them.
So, what would be the car to look for? I'm in a autbody repair class so maybe consider that the car can be banged up a little because I can repair that stuff myself. So the car doesn't have to be in the best shape, so that can save me a lot of money.
It won't be for serious drag racing, but I'd like to eventually turn it into one so if it turns out to be a decent dragger I'll be using it for probably other competitions. All help is MUCh appreciated.

B2300 (Fluffy) Retired- Plain-Jane Dodge Truck
Go get a rough 87-93 5.0 Mustang LX (~$2500), buy some used slicks ($100) and a used N2O kit ($300). Strip the thing down to a shell and a seat. Learn to drive a stick. Go kick butt.
For $3k, including car, you'll be hard pressed to do better, unless you just happen to luck into something.

Well, after much talk they decided that we can't use juice. I was actually leaning into the older mustang area of cars, just not really finding any around here.
