I just got my oil changed, drained the M1 5w30 and it was in horrible condition, black and broken down, like Bobby Brown. I went just over 5k miles before i changed it and theres no excuse for that oil to be in that condition, especially since i don't drive the car hard here in Tampa. It's too damned hot and people drive so damn close and crazy -- it's like i'm trapped in the biggest game of "R/C Pro Am" every played. Anyway, never again will i put M1 in my car. Sarge is right, don't charge caviar prices for plain ole fish eggs. I filled with Pennzoil Platinum. We'll see how that goes.

So with that line of marketing money reasoning, I guess if the Dollar General store paid enough money to GM GM would recommend the .50 cent a quart Dollar General Store brand?I doubt it.
All I am saying is that M1 may not be the very best oil out at this time, but it is more than adequate for the LS1 in normal driving conditions and recommended change intervals. Now if you have the need to really hammer the gas pedal all the time or are racing you should be running the best oil currently made.
Also, if anyone really cares so deeply about their engines I can`t see ever waiting 5k miles between changes. Why take the chance? After all, NORMAL wear on an engine is gradual over time. If 5K oil changes do cause a bit more wear it may take years for it to show.

If dollar General Store Wolf Heads Brand oil meet API SM specs....sure they can find a car manufacturer to pimp with....you must read the numerous post concerning Used Oil Analysis and Oil Change Intervals....this methodology cuts through all the marketing/Internet bullshit and gets down to the data.....then your never "taking any chances" as you have actual real world data to determine your oil/viscosity/filter/OCI....I have an engine timer that times the run time down to the minute...that is how close I have it....my UOA from Dyson Labs nails this OCI regimen.............

83 Z28 new project- 98 Formula WS7-sold:(
One thing I noticed, I used to use M1 and after 2500 miles, my oil pressure would go down some, like 10-15psi lower than normal. When draining the oil, it came out like brown water. I changed to penzoil plat 10w30 on sarge's recommendation and after 3000 miles when I changed the oil, it came out brown, but not broken down like it was and my oil pressure never changed like it did with M1.
