Red- 2001 Camaro SS A4
93 Octane question
Well right now I think I am trading my truck in for an 01 red bird ws6. auto w/ 61k on it. Does anybody run anything less than 93 octane and if its even possible to do safetly? Is the reason it requires more than 91 octane is because of the 10:1 compressin ratio? I was just wondering if anyone has ever ran 89 in their car.

if the car is stock it should be able to run all 3 grades, at least thats what GM says.

I run 92 often with out issues, but the car doesn't like it if I run any lower than that.

Middle grade will run, just not maximum horse power, I always go 91 or 93. And when I get into chicago, I go to the gas station that sells 101 I think it is.

What!?! You can run premium? My cars completely stock and i just put the basic unleaded crap in. Does it give a big help if you put in premium? B/c that gets expensive if it dont help much.

Please pour the highest grade availabe. (not race gas) I dont get this, u have the $ to pay for the car, payments, insurance and even aftermarket parts, but ur trying to cut corners when it comes to gas? The LS1 isnt a civic, but its not THAT bad on gas. And in reality ur only saving what $3-4 on a fillup? I only use 93, and when im at the track i use race gas.

I have never heard of anyone filling up their TA with anything less than premium. Premium is what is REQUIRED! I believe it eeven says so in the manual

sure the car will run on 87 octane but it will also detonate which is very bad on the engine the ls1 was designed to be run on 92 octane I use 93 if cost is ur only concern you are driving the wrong car
while your at it put 87 in it then only use 3 quarts of oil when the oil is changed who cares about the requirements just give it enough to run

Well..you can technically run 87/89 even with like 12:1 compression, as long as your ignition is retarded. And no...beating it with a shovel will not make it retarded.
