How Do You Remove The Shifter Boot Without Removing Console On An M6 '99 T/a?

I searched the forum, and haven't even attempted to look to see how it comes apart, but...

How do you remove the shifter boot from a 4th Gen M6 T/A? Does the console have to be removed? I read about some plastic clip that easily breaks...what's the easiest way to prevent this?

Never had a problem as long as all the bolts are out.

Console has to come out. There are little 7mm (I think) holding the boot down that can't be reached with the console in place.

Ah i remember doing that earlier this summer when the B&M short throw shifter BROKE in my hand... thank god thats what broke, but anyway...

Its simple, theres bolts inside the storage part at the bottom, two more where your coin holder would be, then maybe some under your dash on each side of the console, i know you don't want to remove it but you kinda have to at least have it loose, its a bitch to get off with the e-brake in the way. But once your beyond that theres some bolts around the lower boot at least 6 or more depending if anything was ever changed (i found several different bolts in there) some may be hidden by your carpet and fuzzy lint stuff lol so don't try to rip it out. Then volia you have access to your shifter. I know its not what you specifically wanted but hey why not get all the directions just in case
