need some stroker and block advice please.
i finally have got my suspension pretty well set up. now im going to the motor. i have pretty high miles on my block (like 145k), and im not sure how long it will last. most people have told my a head/cam package may push the block too hard with so many miles on it. i dont want nitrous, a turbo or a supercharger. it seems like a stroker kit would be my best bet all around for my limited funds. where can i get a good one? most i have seen, seem a little high priced, while others have seemed too cheap to be good quality. also, i have heard good things about the lsx block. has anyone else? thanks for any advice.

A stroker kit will utilize your stock block.
A new shortblock will have a new block with assembled bottom end.
LSx block is costly, but it is very much worth it.
I had a shortblock built by TSP. $3725. All forged, blueprinted, iron block though (add 80 pounds).
It was originally $3500, but I upgraded to Lunati ProMod rods over the Eagle's.
Basicly....what do you want with the car? Street? Drag? Mainly one or the other?
Mileage matter?
Who would be installing?
Let me know, I will try to help the best I can.2008 Trailblazer SS

the car will be mainly for the street. i want it to keep the driveability, but i would love it to smoke most anything on the road, like maybe the new corvettes (maybe i am dreamin). mileage doesnt matter too much because i could always throw it in 6th if i want. installationis kinda an issue. ive got a good mechanic, but im not sure if he has everything to put together a new motor and tune it. i travel around a lot (military) so i dont really get too established anywhere for too long.

By new 'Vette....you don't mean The C6Z06 do you?
Because you need a fairly aggressive N/A bild to do that. Or pull ALL kinds of weight out.
On a budget??
Trying to see what options are open for you.

Plans to beef up other driveline items? Rearend, tranny, driveshaft?
Sticky tire to make sure you can go somewhere in the lower gears?
$5000 will be enough to make good power, but it might cost driveline parts.

Are you doing all the install work? You will be hard-pressed to even find a used stroker long-block for $5K. The rotating assembly and the heads to utilize the extra cubes are within your budget, but then you have the cost of machine work, supporting parts and tuning.

383 usually uses the same heads as a 346.

Install heads yourself, of course, to minimize cost. I guess I'm spoiled since my tuner works cheaper than most.
So if it's slow vs never, I'll take slow. That's what I'm doing now.
