next mod question for 00 ss
i am debating on my next set of mods, i am limited to about 2 grand here preferrable 1500. i currently have sfc's, bilstein shocks, slp lid with k&n, slp smooth bellow, and loudmouth 2 exhaust. I am debating on headers, ory pipe and dyno tune. or cam, ported throttle body, and dyno tune. Which combo, will net more hp??? any other combinations for my budget will be appreciated. thnks !!

#1 are you installing yourself or is labor $$ coming out of the budget? I would do headers first, handle the exhaust end before the intake. So with that I would get a set of coated Pacesetters and ORY for $500 from nonsponsor. Set of spark plugs while your in there too. As far as a tune, if you are going to do a cam down the road I would wait on shelling out $$$ for a tune until you get the cam on there.

Also look into a LS6 manifold for your car when you get the cam, let that baby breath better. Headers and ORY should net you around 20-25 without a tune to the wheels.

i agree with Hurley711 there really is no point in doing cam first as the exhaust will be choaked up at the manifolds if you dont do the headers first.
imo headers and ORY first then cam and ls6 intake like he suggested.
a rule of thumb on the cam that i learned the hard way is always go 1 step bigger then what you think you want.
i did a TR224 112lsa thinking thats what i wanted. but 2 months down the road it wasnt big enough for me and i went bigger.
hope this helps you on what you choose to do
PS also think about altering your LM2 set up. with longtubes and ory you will get alot louder more rasp and drone then what you have now so thats something else you might have to take a look at.
i went with spintech and love the sound here is my car with dynatech supermaxx longtubes with cats into a 3inch spintech system

hmmm very good point about the exhaust, a raspy, cheap sounding exhaust is not what i want. i love the way my lm2 set up sounds right now its extremely deep and powerful sounding. i hope the LT's and ory wont make it too raspy. the lm2 sounds a world better than the original loudmouth also. Also will having cats cut out on some rasp and drone?

also as far as hp is concerned where do you think it will put me with slp air lid with k&n filter, slp smooth air bellow, slp lm2 exhaust, pacesetter coated LT's with ory pipe from tsp, slp ls6 intake manifold, and a quality professional dyno tune??? was hoping to reach the 375 mark at the wheels is the possible?
and might port and polish the throttle body while im at it, have come to the conclusion to wait on the cam will this is done, thanks for the input, has really helped.

i hear cats help keep them down some i kept the cats on my car.
as far as hp its kinda hard to say my car when i dyno'd it in the video i posted all i had was a lid longtubes and the spintech and i pulled 354hp and 358 torque
my 02 came with a ls6 intake.
i also saw someone else with the same set up as mine dyno 345 so its kinda hard to say what you will have unless you dyno'd the car stock so we have a starting point to go from.
right now with longtubes and all the stuff you want to do to it and have done to it i dont think you whould hit the 375 mark without a cam.but i could be wrong it just depends on how stout it was from the get go. i have heard of 98-00 ls1's dynoing in the 280-300 range so if your in that range you will have alot of making up to do and wont hit 375 without a cam
mine dyno'd 319 stock
you can do all that you want without dyno tuning the car.if you are gonna do the cam later i whould really recommend holding off on the dyno tune till you do the cam or else you will be shelling out 900 bucks for 2 tunesLast edited by 02 Blk T/A WS6; 11-27-2005 at 07:50 PM.

adding the longtubes you will feel a diffrence and hear a diffrence. the car will get louder i had a LM1 when i added the longtubes and the rasp and drone killed me i switched to the spintech 2 days later. only set me back 350 bucks i think it was so it wasnt too bad.
i have a m6 and my car did redline alot faster after the longtubes. the stock tach whould be at 5700 but the car whould hit the limiter took me doing that once or twice before i started shifting at 5500 to stay off the limiter.
but you will notice and feel a diffrence with the longtubes id also recommend getting locking header bolts
there called stage 8 locking fasteners. i think the part number is 8900 they are 8mm bolts
i had to tighted/check mine every 3 months till i broke down and got me a set of locking ones best 50 bucks i ever spent
i hope this helps you

dyno pulls
You guys pay alot for a dyno. Memphis had a place that use to do 3 pull's for a $100 bucks.

For 2k if you have a M6, then LT's with cats if you don't like rasp. With the LM you may be very loud without cats. My 02 without cats was like nascar and I have the magnaflow catback. I'd get a tune too, I dyno'd real low before a I tuned the Air/fuel and gained around 25 h.p after getting it right at WOT. You should easily be able to get a good LT setup and tune for under 2k. I bought my FLP LT's with removable cats from a guy on the boards for $500 and I brought the A/F to 12.9:1 using my Predator for about $150, for 8 dyno runs. Misc costs like tweaking the catback at a shop, rear 02 sims(no need with a custom tune, can delete them) and stage 8 locking bolts and that should be it.
If you have a A4 I'd say a stall converter. I gained a consistent 1/2 second with a 3400 stall and it only cost me $350 for the converter and $250 for install and tranny cooler. Was the best $600 I spent so far. Oh, and needed Drag radials, which I bought used too and a new set for a spare for $300 combined.
