Navy Blue Metallic- 2000 Pontiac Trans Am
bad AC compressor
my car was making a horrible noise from the engine bay and it turns out to be that my compressor is shot and leaking oil
now i know i can get a used one cheaper but the "mechanic" told me i had to replace evrerything else along that has to do with the AC system such as the accumulator(the silver thing???)
he says this because the filtration traps all the dirt and it might mess up the new compressor
is this true?
and he says he wants about 350 for just labor!!!!
what do u guys think?

The silver thing that you are referring to is the accumulator/drier. The condensor is in front of the radiator/same width as the radiator. It is reccomended to replace the accumulator/drier, orifice tube, and flush the condensor and evaporator to make sure there is no debris from the compressor floating around to damage the new compressor.
Labor sounds in the neighborhood because on average a full A/C job like that parts and labor runs very close to $1K.

If you don't use the A/C at all you may look into an a/c delete pulley and bracket. I've heard of a few using this or fabbing their own.
