Oil vapor smell after LTH Install !
After I installed my LTH's, I have done many all out runs rowing through the gears. As soon as I stop, I smell the oil vapors leaking out of the engine compartment. I am wondering why this issue is plauging me, thinking that it may be do to the new found breathing capabilities of the LS1?
I am still using the standard PCV system and wondering if I should go with the LS6 style or the oil catch can?
My car does not use any more oil than before the LTH install, which is a 1/2 a quart every 2,000 miles!
Any help>!>?

Probably just the engine running rich. I'm guessing you have an ORY? Smell like an old muscle car? It is a normal smell with long tubes and no cats. I like it

It is not a fuel smell. It is oil vapor!

Did you leave greasy fingerprints all over the exhaust?

LOL, no offense taken, it's all good. I just like to eliminate the obvious first
Hmmm, the only time I have ever had the problem you describe is when the rings have had enough and there is excessive blowby. Do you have alot of miles? I have never had a problem out of the factory pcv system on my 02 LS1, no oil in the intake like some complain about

I should have mentioned the obvious!
The engine has around 26,000 miles and I have tried 2 different PCV valves.
The intake doesn't really have an issue with being oil soaked. The car didn't have this problem until the header install.
Is the PCV system the same on a 98 as it is on a 02?
This is why I wish I would have installed the LS6 valley cover when the intake was off!

check your header connection and make sure its tight. it sounds like when you get into it some of the exhaust fumes leak out possibly. that or get a catch can.

The 98's have a PCV system that is different from all of the other years of
LS1 F-Body's, although my 98' has 104,000 miles on it and I have no issues with it.

I only mentioned the oil in the intake because that seems to be a common complaint among LS1 owners and their fix for that was going to the LS6 pcv system that you mentioned. Although I have never seen a need for it in my case so I am a little puzzled as to why others find it necessary.
You've got me puzzled, I can't see any reason why a pair of headers would have anything to do with it.

Are you sure it isn't just the new coating/paint burning in? If you've been losing oil for a while maybe it's just burning off some from the underside of the engine compartment?

I guess everyone is puzzled, as I would have expected more of a response! Well, thanx for your help!

Jag brings up the point again that I eluded to earlier. With either ceramic coated headers or painted headers, ( I have used both) they always seem to stink and sometimes let off a mist when they get hot, and it seems like they have to go through several heating cycles before it stops.
Just to be sure though, I would go through the engine compartment and make sure all your hoses, pcv and everything related are connected,,,,guess it's possible one may have been knocked off while fiddling around under the hood installing those headers.

Something else I do that may not apply here, I have a Monza with a 406, and it uses headers where the primary pipes slip together. I have the headers off quite often for various reasons so I always assemble the pipes with anti seeze so they do not rust and stick together.
Man that stuff stinks when it gets hot and it does this for about 2 weeks of daily driving (I drive it everyday) but it's nice when the time comes to take them apart, they slide right apart.
