I find this post very rude and insulting, as I had an Uncle that died at a concentration camp.
He fell out of his watchtower!!!

my ole ladys mom is 100% german , she was tellin me one night that when the bombin started in berlin one day her and her mom got seperated and she was alone in the middle of the street . she said the bombs leveled everything around her but she never got one scratch . Then she tells me her father was in the SS I called BS tell she brought out pics of him.....kind of freaky . she even had pics when my ole lady and her bros went over for a visit , he gave them his old uniform and stuff but it got taken away by customs before they left the airport over there. She was tellin me that here father all tho he was in the SS that hilter was a idiot and didnt agree with what he was doing .

after the war there was a strange phenomenon here in germany: suddenly there were no nazis anymore...
the allied forces conducted a process on the german population called "denazification". but almost everyone cleared it, so it was kinda useless. also, many nazi technocrats where of great value, like Werner von Braun, the rocket scientist and "father" of the US space program.
pretty much until the 1970s, germany went through a state of denial. economy was booming like never before and nobody wanted to bother with the ghosts from the past. problem was that those ghosts where still alive and sometimes reinstalled in societies key positions. then a phase of cleansing began and most of them where uncovered or had died of age anyway.
btw: my grandpa's dad was in the opposition and also imprisoned by the nazis for political reasons. friends of my grandparents where still convinced of the good values of the nazi regime when i last met them in the 1990s.... i guess some people never learn.
