Auto/Manual
would an engine that was previously with a manual transmission [6speed manual Corvette LS1] be able to be put in an automatic car [4speed auto Trans Am] and work ???

Yes, transmission swap is not uncommon. So that engine will go right in. Nothing changed on the engine when auto or manual was selected.
