Is this Camaro an SS? Here's how you can tell...
kinda getting tired of people asking this all the time about whether an Ls1 is an SS or a Ws6. People, it's as easy as this...
1) write down or take pics of the door codes and look for the code that is indicuative of either an SS (Wu8) or a Ws6 (Ws6). It's called: research, so try it sometime. If you had to do it for school reports growing up, I sure hope that as an adult you are competent enough to still know how to do it now...
2) write down the VIN#, drive (or call) to your local dealership, go into the service/parts center and have them run the VIN# for you FOR FREE and PRINT OUT all the CODES and OPTIONS that were ordered on the car...
3) if you cant see it in person, call the perosn and have them GIVE YOU the VIN#, and the refer back to #2...
4) yes CARFAX is a source but since most people dont care to pay for info, i have given you the free route...
there, all questions answered and that should help you to decide if you wish to pursue the car and purchase it...
it amazes me that people do not think to write this stuff down or record it for later use. shit if you look everything else over, how in the hell do you skip this part?

sticky please! good write up, and i like the motivated anger!
-

it's not motivated anger
, it's just common sense...
for example, would you skip wipping your ass after taking a shit, pull up your pants and just walk off, or would you REMEMBER to wipe you ass to make sure no dingleberries are left behind...?
i do the latter, to make sure i don't look like an idiot the rest of the day picking at my ass, cause dried dingleberries are fused to it...
now, transend that mentality to buying a car...

i know you were kidding about the anger, no harm no foul. besides, i felt an example was in order. also people who know me, know how smartassed i can get...
nothing wrong with being a little cynical while helping people out. sure beats being critical...

Thank you! Thank you! thank you!
You have no idea how seeing the same question asked over and over and over again was driving me to the brink of insanity. I was seriously thinking of doing this
to all the folks who posted that question.

so you guys just made me waste a lot of time and gas by going to the dealer and have them run my vin number because they said my car is to old. I have a 98 ss and he said he would only be able to do it if it was an 01 or 02

ok, just like everyone else, i was curous as to what my car had on it, if it was a real ss and so forth. I went to the dealer and they didnt do me any good. so i went online and found this nifty site
http://www.camarosource.ca/php/camar...year=2002&tm=1
Just type in all your rpo codes that are located on your door and it will tell you exactly what code means and what your car came with. You can also type in you vin number and it will break it down for you and tell you exactly what everything means.

another good indicator that the car is an SS is the SLP sticker on the inside of the door. it will say something to the effect of "this vehicle was modified by SLP" etc.

exactly, mines a real ss but has no slp options, so therefore no passenger door SLP sticker. The only way I found out was Wu8, called the dealership, then called SLP to triple confirm. It's real, and it was actually kind of fun just to do the searching about the car I eventually bought. Goodluck!

Pewter Metallic- 2002 Pontiac Trans AM
another thing that would be common since..the ss's come with stock 17's..if you are unsure about it the sticker on the inside of the door will say the stock tire and rim size???i had the same problem and someone enlightened me about it..so i was just passing it on!
