It used to be 17 1/2 was minimum and also required the written consent of your parents.

nope only 17 years old...parent consent and a junior in high school.....also my brother is a recruiter. I leave for basic this summer then come back for my senior year.

yeah, theres no moving up from turning wrenches in a dealership..one of my 3 no wait two of them started out as lot porters..i mean wtf, I went to college have a degree etc. and they were always looking down to me.. so f 'em I cant move up where i'm at but I can where I hope to be in 3 months...

I made a shit load of money as a lot porter. A couple bucks here and there out of peoples' ash trays really adds up. I used to clear $250 a week just in coins. Some guy even had a big ol' bag of weed in his console and he "lost" it.

Thats weird. I didn't ask because I was 20 at the time but I never heard anything about having to be 18.

im actually pretty sure it just changed. . . for insurance reasons...

cuz when iwas 15 i asked and they said when i get my liscense i could--so i assumed i would be 16 years old...

That is getting to be a big thing here in chicago. A lot of the yuppies don't want to get their hands dirty picking up crap. They also don't like to walk their dogs. Good for us, we make the money!

That much money? Wow! At my dealer the lot guys would make a few bucks doing that but this was on like used cars and stuff. Service customers will get quite pissed if they notice money missing. It happened before at my place and there was a meeting and everything about it.

im curious as to how you got into that? like whats your backround?

I have plastics background from previous jobs, and I have some college, although no deploma. Luck of the draw I guess, but it has downers too, don't get me wrong. The plastic I work with is ultem, which is a high heat plastic and costs up to $20 lb. So I make costly decisions every day, One batch from one line is about $12-$20k. There are 5 lines in my bld. Alot of stress and responsibility. I also have to work swing shift and work alot of hours if thing go wrong. On the up side, I have my own office, fridge, microwave, and my own assistant and I get a suppliers discount one the Big 3, like 1% under invoice. The intake manifold on my GTO for example is Ultem Plastic...I made it in essence not the finished product but the pellets. Sorry for rambling probably more info than you wanted, but that is what I do
