Math term question
Whats the word for something that continusly approaches a value but never gets there? think its used in calculus...
like walking 50% of the way to the wall over and over will technically never get you there (on a number line anyway)

Typically it's an irrational number with the best known as pi.
In calculus, it is known as: the sum of such as it approaches infinity.
In theoretical statistics: alpha is what we know as the unknown number despite the infiniteness of theta as we try to determine omega.
As an example there is always a number between 0.000000000000000000000000 & 0.0000000000000000000001
In science a radioactive isotope has a half-life or the half of the half of the half (of the matter) on and on on to infinity

I think it's, perpetual infinity approach something or other.
Man I hated calculus

It's the limit as you approach something. You can have a limit due to an asymptote, which leaves you with a limit of positive or negative infinity. Unless it's positive infinity on one side and negative on the other, then the limit does not exist.

I'm thinking asymptote is what I'm looking for... but I could have swore there was a another one...
