Clutch Pedal Slack
I've got a 00 Z28, and most of the time, the clutch pedal has an inch or two of free play at the top of its travel. Sometimes It's fine. The clutch engages and disengages normally, just has the "slack" in the pedal from. Almost seems like the master cylinder is not pushing the paedal back up hard enough. Anyone else had this problem? Thanks.

my problem seems a little different, since my clutch works and trans shifts fine, just has the slack in the pedal. it never goes to the floor and doesn't work though, so that's why i'm asking if anyone else has had this problem. I've read all of the threads that deal with the problem of the pedal going to the floor and the driver can't shift, but mine always shifts. Simply has slack.

Think it might be the Master cylinder...
It could be the master cylinder is on it's way to going out... This was the case with mine. There was more and more play until finally it gave out on me one day when coming home from work. I dunno? But my guess would be the clutch pedal will start stickin to the floor shortly... If it ends up being that don't forget DRILL MOD, DRILL MOD, DRILL MOD!!!

I have the same problem. I am not sure what it is because I have not needed to replace it yet. It still works fine. I have noticed though that when I go full throttle through the gears it goes back to normal.

I would start shopping for a Clutch Master Cylinder and have it on hand. They never get better.

Sounds like a problem with your slave cylinder. And have fun replacing that as it's internal in the trans ... Gotta love the T56s

If you hear a little squeak when pressing on the clutch pedal, then I probably have the same problem. There is a little plastic bearing that is supposed to ride in the cavity where the clutch return spring sits. After a number of miles, it just wears away (if you've found some unidentifiable white plastic pieces on your front floor...that'd be it). Now, there is extra clearance in the system and the return spring doesn't slide as smoothly in the seat and can bind up a bit...leading to the clutch pedal not returning fully.
As you say, it doesn't have any effect on shifting or clutch operation. It just feels like a sloppier pedal. I don't think there is a replacement part without buying the whole pedal assembly (thanks GM! ). I've tried some repair by slipping a piece of polyethylene tubing around the return spring, but it only lasts a short while and it's a bitch to get to. I haven't found a good solution, yet.

so if one were to choose to just replace the master cylinder instead of doing the DRILL MOD, what setup/master cylinder is suggested?

If your Clutch Master Cylinder is bad or going bad the drill mod will not cure it. That would be a problem internal to the cylinder itself. The drill mod is an external (hose line) item.

i have not actually put the car up to check the M.C. I just know that when getting on it hard and shifting more from 3rd-4th that i really have no clutch (bout 100+mph) 2nd-3rd i really dont have issues with. I have not done the drill mod, so everything is stock on my car (including clutch, etc) at 37k...
i currently do not have a clue if the M.C. is bad or not...

the only way to find out is to get under tha car and look. You should, before you are stuck somewhere regreting you didn't take the time to find out if it was bad or not...

Sounds like theirs air in the hydraulics.
