Doctors have to "adjust" the dosage or you could really get in trouble with your hormones and metabolism. You can go to a free clinic or planned parenthood and get accurate and safe help for free. Or you can go to the Catholic Church and get your ass chewed out.

If your partner if considering going on a hormonal form of birth control, she really does need to see a doctor. It puts us women at a higher risk for certain cancers so it is very important that she gets a regular pap. If cost and privacy is a concern, I suggest that you visit your local health department or planned parenthood (like others have suggested).

I know it's already been said, but women have VERY different reactions to different forms of hormones. As an example I was on the patch for only 1 month cause it irratated my skin so bad that I now have a scar from it. Just have your chick go to the Dr and get the right kind of birth control. It might take a while to get it just right, but it's worth it in the end.
Planned Parenthood has been said already. It's one of the cheaper facilities cause it is based off your income. They also seem to put their patients at ease. I suggest if she is uncomfortable about seeing a gyno have her go to a woman Dr. It's a little easier to deal with
