Bright idea or just madness??
I have begun to buy the parts necessary for a t top conversion from a hardtop. I was wondering what all of you thought of this, and if you have any advice or pointers that would help me out...

Don't mean to sound negative here, but if you want a ttop, buy one. I have heard the conversion isn't the funnest thing to tackle, JMO though. If you do choose to do it, good luck with it.

Why not do it. If you mess it up you can always try to make it into a vert!

It takes serious nads to cut into the roof of a car. Aren't the hard tops a shade lighter than the t-top cars anyhow not to mention a little more rare.

There's not that much weight diff. You are actually losing a couple of pounds by cutting off a ton of metal from underneath. actually i have the site i will be following to do this...http://members.fortunecity.com/gripe...onversion.html
as for buying a t top car.. i have already built this car to where i want it, and now i want t tops, simple as that.
For all the parts it was less than $500, and i already have all of the tools, so its not very expensive secret..

Pewter Metallic (1of?)- 2001 Formula M6(1 of 225)
I would have just looked for a t-top car in the first place, because what if you f**k it up? Isn't much choice to turn back now is there? just my opinion.....

Sooo much more involved with a vert i've never heard of someone attempting this.
There are a bunch of threads on doing this just do a search. Actually i think the hard tops are much more rare. The only thing i'd consider doing if i had a hardtop is possibly doing a taga top. I never see hard tops but a targa would be badass

Did it to my friend's Z28 and he didn't have the nads. He called me up, I went over, he gave me the sawzal and walked away It's not as bad as people think and the sealing is actually better than stock. Once you make the first cut, it you forget about the mayhem you're causing

I've looked at the sites on it. It doesn't seem too bad IF you know how to use the tools involved.
As for a Targa Top.... cutting out the T will be very bad on the structure of the car.
The 4th gens were engineered as a T-top. Cutting out the bars to do the T-top conversion does not effect the structure of the car.
