My self I would go to a 700 r with a stall (4 speed auto direct bolt up)
That's my plans along with a new 383 stoker.
also there is a section for classic mussle here.Last edited by skar; 01-15-2007 at 10:08 AM.

Black- 97 Formula
It would depend if it's a numbers matching car. If it has the original motor, tranny, rear end, I wouldn't change it. But if it's a mod-resto [pulled out of a barn, restored to driving condition, but not numbers matching], then there wouldn't be a problem swapping transmissions.

Awesome car. Looks like the one from the movie "Better off Dead"

Even if the car is numbers matching, I'd do it since you plan on keeping the original tranny. It is all about having fun, and being a manual tranny guy myself I know how restricted you feel in the fun that you have when you get "stuck" with an auto. Drop that muncie in there now!

Thanks, I haven't even picked it up and already trying to mod it. lol
I wouldn't have minded as much if it had a turbo 350. My dad had a 66 impala that I drove till I got my first car. It was a 275hp 327 w/powerglide. If anyone has ever driven a powerglide, they understand what I am talking about. I know the impala is a big car, and I don't know what gears it had, but it wouldn't even break the tires loose from a standstill or even powerbrake.
I have always liked manual transmissions, and the only automatic I own now is my S10. My second car was a 69 Nova SS, 295 hp 350 4 speed. Basically the same engine as my new Camaro. I loved it, although I immediately started modding it. The very thing we all hate now. lol
