LS1 to LS2 block swap
I need to do an engine block swap LS1 to a new LS2 on my 99 TA.
I got quoted 3000 for a new forged LS2 block, and I think it's a good deal. right>?
I know I could be doing the head/cam upgrade as well for the new block, don't have the money right now but yeah that would be in 6 months most probably. so my question is:
would the cam, heads and most LS1 components (cam/heads) cross over to the LS2 block?
what I can buy new for the LS2 block are:
push rods,
valley + front covers
timing set and timing set damper
knock sensor harness, cam sensor harness.
again I am looking to use the LS1 cam, heads for now due to budget constraints.. will this plan work?

The LS1 heads/cam will restrict the hell outta it.
Enough to barely make extra power.
What cubes from the LS2?? The stock 364?

Pretty much. You won't get anywhere near the 400HP stock output of the LS2 without the heads, cam, and intake manifold from the LS2.
If you're just looking to get a block and then swap the heads/cam/ ect out later for aftermarket parts, then I suppose thats not too bad of a deal.

yeah, I had an a bad accident, took a right turn right into a big asz puddle, 12-14inches deep and engine shot down.. too much flooding on the roads and the engine chambers got in water. shit! so now I can get an LS2 forged block, and build on it in a few months when I get more money for AFR heads and a good cam.. so u think the swap will work/feasible?
btw, I have the 90mm throttle body and Fast instake manifold as mods already...

Are you sure about the waterlog??
If so...are you sure the motor compressed water and is damaged?
If not...dry it out. Cut the spark and fuel...remove plugs...crank a few times to remove water.

I talked to the guys at LG Motorspors here they said new LS2 forged block.
I looked at the spec on ls2.com they say 18ci more over ls1 block. 364cid I believe.

I know.
I was just mentioning a 347 LS1.
They could use your block as long as it is in good shape and maybe even save you a little cash.
It would be built (bottom end) for bigger and badder things.

shoot I'm looking at ls2 block 3k, AFR and cam pkg 3k, install and tune all
2k, 2-3days work... oops new ls2 engine + kick ass heads/cam = 8k

my wife knows half of the money I spent on the TA... I bundle stuff for 1k. she like wow that's expensive. I;m thinking shoot that was 2.5k if u only knew

Is the block itself still good?? If so, this is what I recommend...for those extra cubic inches. Why dont you just get a stroker kit for it. Have the engine bored out a little bit (about .030" from what I understand), that way you can have a 408, and that costs about $2500 for the kit and maybe $100 for the machining. That would be a better bang for what you are wanting to spend. Remember hindsight is always 20/20, dont make the same mistake that I did. If the block is good, bore and stoke it. Dont spend a button of money on a new block when you dont need it.

He has the LS1 right now.
Looking for buy an LS2.
You don't want to bore an LS1 or LS2 if you don't have to. Hone is okay though. Unless you want to get really expensive and sleeve it.
You can bore an 6.0L iron block 0.030" over and stroke it for the 408. Most assembled forged 408's run $3800.
You normally get the 6.0L aluminum (LS2) in the 402 variety. That is normally $4200 or so for a assembled forged shortblock.2008 Trailblazer SS
Yank PTB3600, Kooks 1 7/8" LT's, 4" intake, E-fans, Magnaflow, Sonnax kit, tranny cooler, tune.
Lowered, HID's, tinted.
