i ate my first snake
Me and my little bro were cruisin back from taco bell with the grilled stuft burritos when this mustang slides beside me with this little kid in the passenger seat having a shit eatin grin on his face. they nail it and take off. so i got behind it and noticed the "COBRA" in the bumper with and "SVT" on the back. i got all jittery inside and thought i was gonna pass out with excitement. i happen to also notice that it is a N/A model, i'm guessing a '99. anywho, we get on the highway and he goes slow at around 55-prime 2nd gear, and we line up. he nails it and so do i. man i pulled hard, i even told my brother to look at him while i pulled away so he looked out the window and i started to hit the throttle and let off. to play with him. and by 90 i had at least 2-3 cars. so we turn around to head back to town and line up at like 15mph. he hits first again and i follow. seriously, by the end of 1st i had 1 car on him
. at first we thought he quit but he didnt, he was that far back, by like 75 all i saw was headlights. he was cool as hell and at my exit they flew by me and that little kid was giving me thumbs up. i gave the thumbs up too and we went on our way. it was really fun and was clean. no cars around to get hung up in, but my first cobra kill

Good kill, if the Cobra's don't have S/C they are pokey.

nice kill, wasn't a 99 if it said Cobra on the bumper. They said Mustang, it was probally an 01. The 01 is faster than the 99, so you would pull even harder on a 99 or older Cobra.
The Cobra from 93-95 sucks, 96-01 needs some bolt ons to be nasty, especially the 96-98 models, but they can get there with a little work. The 03/04 Cobras, well we all know that story.

03/04 had COBRA on the rear bumper, 99/01 did not. However, anyone can get those parts and put them on their car.
I'm wondering what your mods are. Not that I don't believe your story or anything. I'm just wondering if you've done anything that would give you that big of an advantage over another pony car with 300 horse from the factory. Or if this may have been another dressed up GT, which I have seen a lot of.
It's hard to know what you're really lining up with now days.

01 said Cobra on the rear bumper, but 99 did not, one would have to buy a whole rear bumper to change the Lettering, then paint it. I guess its possible someone would spend the money on it, but I was talking stock Cobras.Attachment 8658Attachment 8664
The 01 on the left says Cobra, the 99 on the right does not. You might have to click on them to super size em, to see this clearly.
And even a stock LS1 will beat a 99 or 01 Cobra. LS1 engines were underated, they really push around 350 horsepower and 300 at the wheels.
A 99 or 01 Cobra is lucky to see 320 at the crank, with around 270 at the wheels. And they are 5 speed cars with 3.27:1 rear end gears, compared to a 6 speed and 3.42:1 gears. Weight is about the same on the 2 cars. A auto LS1 car would be a close race with a 01 Cobra, but still beat a 99 pretty bad. The 99 was over rated, some owners even sued Ford for this problem.Last edited by preston1980; 12-19-2006 at 11:01 PM.

The quickest bolt on N/A Cobra I have seen had headers, 4.11 gears and a mild tune. Ran a 12.97 in the 1/4. Not too bad, but had a fresh motor and the kid ran it extremely hard.

well i guess it was even older, cuz it was the rounder body style, like the ones posted above but it looked like the style in '95. with the curvier headlights and diff. tail lights.

Silver- 98 Z 28 convertible
Old snakes are not hot compared to the 06s. I went up against an 06' Cobra convertble, and got dusted. I pulled him from stop for about 300 Yards and then he went by me like I was standing still. I am not a big racer, but no one has blown by me like that. I have a '98 Convertible, A-4 2:73, ported MAF, SLP lid, free mod cold air, 3" Y pipe to Flow master cat back. I am looking at NOS vs H & C pkg to keep this from happenin' again.

I've owned a 99 and an 01 Cobra and the 99's are near the equal of the 01 if they had the recall if you are looking at stock. If you already had a chip an exhaust before the recall then all you gained was an extrude honed intake. That's all I had done to mine since I had a Bassnai and chip already in before the recall. If they are both full bolt-on, the 99 will be nearly the equal of the 01. The 01 has a slight head design change for swirl ports.
As far as a bolt-on Cobra, I've seen full bolt-on 99 up GT's running mid 12's. Bob Cosby owns the NMRA record for his 99 Cobra class pretty much limited to basic bolt-ons and he is well into the 11's. He pulls 1.4x 60 footers.

Dunno. White convertible with factory blower. It was howlin' when it went by me. This was in July this summer, so dunno if the Shelby converts were out then or not.

I don't think so, but I went to Ford's home page, and they show a stripe delete for the Shelby. It may have been a Roush or Saleen car as I belive they are both blown.
