Resetting the PCM doesn't require overnight-disconnect the battery for a minute will do the same thing.The computer adapts to the way it's being driven-resetting the PCM and running hard would bring the best out of it-just running hard for 15 or 20 minutes will do the same thing I've noticed.My point about the downshift was that you need to stay within the power curve,which for the stock motor is peaking somewhere around 5500-dropping into 4th should have been sufficient.IMHO you would have to shift again so fast that it would have actually slowed you down to hit 3rd at that speed.So you learn from the experience and try try again.My V-6 98 Camaro 5 speed would out run a Mustang GT convertible (4.6 auto)much to his embarrassement.
