Does this mean I need a new starter?
Ok for a few years now when I turn my key the car doesnt fire up instantly. Maybe takes a second. But today it didnt for maybe 4 seconds. If this means I need a new starter, then I have some more questions. BTW, the battery and alternator are new. No power problems.
I have Hooker longtubes, so is changing the starter a bitch?
Where can I get one? Like a good one? Aftermarket for cheaper or shall I go to AutoZone?
I have never changed one before, so I dont know if I need to bang it, get a gasket, make a prayer, etc.
I just hope I can do it myself without moving shit around.
Thanks!!!!
Edit...since no signature has been made yet...we are talking about a 1999 T/A M6.

i had the same problem.... Is it when u trun the key and it jsut makes a small click noise under the hood? U might hafta have a friend try and fire it up while ur listening for it. I replaced my starter in like 10 mins with nothing but common hand tools. I work @ valvoline so all i did was drive it in the pit to change it. but it should be simple to change on jacks.

i dont kno if its your starter but its a very easy change, just throw it up on jacks, will be 2 bolts, easy to get to, there will be a plug and a main power line connected by a bolt u will have to undo and jus throw the other one in. thats all there is to it.

A very easy test for the starter, have someone turn the key to start the vehicle, while they are doing this start tapping the starter with a hammer, if the vehicle then turns over, you have a bad bendix in the starter.
