Uploading video from a camera to computer
I have a JVC DV camcorder but can't figure out how to upload a video onto my computer to post on the web. Is there a special cable that connects to the camera to the USB port on the computer? I'm stumped here, computer illiterate as hell. Thank ye fellers

You need to use firewire, not USB. That cable normally does not come with the camcorder. Does you computer have a firewire card?

Thanks, I ain't never heard of a firewire. How can I tell if my computer has that capability? It's a Dell desktop with Windows XP. I'll ride back down to Sears tonight and see if I can find a cable that will work. Do ya'll have a special media program to save video's on the hard drive? Sorry for all the questons but this is all new to me, thanks again.

Desktops normally don't have firewire, usb will work just not as fast. Usually they use a firewire to usb cable, but firewire to firewire works best. Your computer will have the basic software.

This is just a regular program that I could buy at Best Buy correct? I'm going there after work to find the cable I need and see which video program I can use to edit and make movie's with. I've been fooling around with my camera at the house and it has a really good video quality so once I get the cable and software I'll be able to take in car vids at Deals Gap. Bought myself a tri-pod that mounts to my console for spirited mountain driving too
I'm looking forward to playing with this thing. Thanks Ed and everyone else!

Moviemaker comes with Windows XP. Its free which is why I use it. There are other better software. But for what I do, its fine.
With a DV camera, the vids should look great.
This was taken with a cheap high-8 camera and edited with moviemaker.
