i need advice, creepy neighbor sneaking into my shop
Ok so ive got this old creepy guy, prob. in his 60's pretty big guy but real shady acting. He's renting out this big red barn and supposedly works on motorcycles and small engines. His building is maybe 10 ft away from my shop. Now, the very first time i met this guy i had a bad feeling about him, he looks like a child molester or rapist or something just really weird about him. Anyways weve been in our home about 5 months and all was fine until about 2 months ago i noticed my water hose laying in the middle of my backyard - i keep it wound tight behind the hedges so i knew i hadnt left it there. My water bill that month was over $50 where it normally was $15-20 BTW. I had a guy bush hogging about an acre and thought it was him so i just moved the hose to my shop, no worries. Well saturday night i come home and i have 2 barn doors on my shop that face this guys shop and they open outwards. one of the doors was pushed about 2 feet in, enough for somebody to walk right in (i have a board nailed on the backside since im remodeling the entire inside). I ran to my shop and just knew everything would be gone but nothing looks to have been touched. I cant prove it (yet) but i KNOW it was this creepy old bastard but cant prove it, what would you do? maybe setup some sort of motion detected camera? My wife works odd hours as a nurse and i can just picture that man walking around my yard peeking in the windows or something crazy like that while shes at home after work.
First step will prob. be a 6 ft privacy fence between my yard and his but i can feel my blood boiling just thinking about him in my yard and then snooping through my shop! i want to keep a level head but i know its him, anybody got any suggestions?

Why don't you just put some kind of lock on your shop doors? Then, if it gets broken into you can take the next step and get the cameras.
As far as him peeking in the windows, putting a fence up with a lock on the gate should fix that, but that's a lot of money to dish out for something you're really not sure is going on anyway. Close the blinds/drapes/whatever. I'm in the habit of keeping all my window stuff closed anyway unless I'm in that particular room, then if some weird guy came by and started looking in I could go grab a gun or call the police or something.

Just lock that thing up and put a Private property sign up that says trespassers will be shot on sight or in his case Child molesters will be shot on sight. It's private property and if he violates that F**K his ass up.

we live in a rural area so i dont have many neighbors but ive got a garage door ordered for the side of my shop. I also have 2 regular doors which stay locked on the knob and deadbolt. There is no reason he should be in my yard though and its that feeling like if somebody breaks into your car, you feel violated. I did roll my lawnmower against those doors to keep anybody from pushing them in again however.

i definitely need some signs and i thought about a pitbull but i have a friend that owns a tire shop and he had 2 pitbulls locked up there at night. a guy broke in and got bit pretty bad , sued my buddy and WON. aint that some shit, so if he broke into my shop and got mauled, i can get in trouble but still might fence in the back half of my yard and get another rottie. even a small dog that barks would help i guess

No dog's, no booby traps. All thoughs will bring you liability problems. And he can sue you for all kinds of stuff.
What you need to do, this is comming from a cop, is get the motion sensing camera, and go that route. Before you do this, call your local police department and tell them that you have reason to believe that this guy is doing these things. They are going to ask you why you believe that, so tell them all you can about why you believe this way. Now, set up the camera, and everytime you leave the house or the shop, make it VERY obvious that you are leaving so that he will know that it is not being protected. Also, make it a bit easier to get inside so that he doesn't have to break the doors. Leave the lights on inside.
You will fry the guy. You will have him on camera, and you will have a police contact that explains that you think he is breaking and entering. He will get his ass handed to him.

well when you have high end cars in for service you need to do everything in your power to keep people honest. it's to bad the thief seems to have more freedoms and rights than the property owner. but if u do catch him inside your building 2 people can keep a secret when 1 is no longer breathing....food for thought
