White- 2001 Trans Am WS6
Wide open throttle shift problems
I have a 2001 Trans Am WS6 with an automatic transmission. Does anyone know what would cause my motor to redline without shifting when I floor it and the throttle is wide open? The motor starts to stall out and the only way I cant get it to shift is if I take my foot off the pedal completely. I took it to the dealer, explained the problem, but they were unable to find anything wrong. They tried to tell me that it was normal for the car. I do not think they are right. It seems to me that the car shifts into 2nd and wont shift into 3rd until I let up on it. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It could be your shift solenoid on the tranny, its like $25 and it should be an easy change. Did your SES light come on at all? If it did go to autozone and have them scan it for free and that should tell you whats wrong hope this helps.

There could be many several reason for this as he said above have scanned and have you had an sort of tune done to it

Thanks for the help. I had taken the vehilce to the dealership and they scanned it but found nothing. I am not sure what the SES light is but I haven't noticed any warning lights. According to the dealership, the tranny is fine. The problem is that when they did test drive it they wouldn't drive it hard and open the throttle completely. So they were unable to duplicate the problem and sent me on my way.

Possible tuning issue, but my guess is clutches are worn and tolerances are too much. This results in tranny hanging up in 2nd @ wot. Mine was real bad all it took was two 11 second passes in the 1/4 to fry my stock tranny. Put billet servos in and raised rev limiter. It works good on the motor, but when I spray it, it hangs in 2nd on the 2-3 shift. I bought everything high performance to rebuild tranny and will be doing it before it goes out and installing a stall converter.
