Ram Air intake for 1997
I just saw for the first time the Ram Air setup for the 96-97 Trans Am. It seems like that would be a more efficient way to stuff the air into the intake with the filter facing up into the air box in the hood. Does this make sense? Am I crazy? I looked in past threads and didn't see anything pertaining to it. If it was more efficient why did they change it? The only thing that I could see that could be a problem would be water getting into it with the filter facing upwards.

I always felt like that set up was more efficient as well. The air had a straight shoot to the intake. But you look at the later setups, the air came through the inlet, and then had to go all the way around the air ducts and back to the front. Basically makes a two horseshoes. It's crazy. I see why they say it only starts working when you get up near 100mph.

i also wish they werent so expensive to build. the top cover is like..$130 in some places. they do sell some nice setups for 98-02 ram air trans ams. they have ones that dont have that crazy "air box", but it has either one big air filter that lays on top of the radiator support. i've also seen ones that have two filters behind the hood openings. i forgot who makes em, all i know is they're blue.

i think you're talking about to "volant" system. With the two small cone filters?
