Well.....With stock springs....you need not go much over .540ish...Wait...I'm not going down that road
Your not gonna gain much man....you would probably only move your torque curve upwards and in a 3500 lb car that doesnt make sense....I mean you can get a really nice cam and springs for under $500 bucks...why not do it right....just a cam is like internet sex....
Some LS1 GTO folks have this Lingenfelter setup...really good numbers and excellent power bands.....Under $400 w/springs and free shipping from Lingenfelter....

Makes perfect sense. Guess I'll do both. Will the stock clutch hold up using a 228/228 581/581 114 lsa cam?
Thanks!

Ruby Red- 98 Camaro Z28 402 stroker
how much horsepower do you want to add?

The absolute most that I can without taking away from the streetability. I figured that the next economical power adder with a good hp/tq increase would almost have to be a cam. I'm not interested in N2o and don't have the $$$ to spend on forced induction.

Yea your clutch will hold up longer then your 10 bolt, Cam wise I would go with something around a 226/228 and like a .550 lift no more. Also let your springs heat up before beating the shit out of it. Really springs are not that expensive though. The real question is do you want to do all that engine work for 40 hp?

Outside of N2o where else can I get 40hp for around $600.00?

Well, its just alot of work to rip apart an ls1, such a tight space your best bet is to take the heads off, replace the lifters, and cam I would get a bigger cam and get some 60 dollar springs so you dont have to worry about them. By the way I would not use nitrous on a stock bottom end, even a wet shot. My advice is plan out what you want to do with the car in terms of hp and if you are going to be boosted. then get your info.

I made a mistake and did a cam/ head swap for what i thought was going to be 1200 but was like 1500. It always costs more then you think

The cam you have now is: .551/.555 lift 218/204 duration with a 117.5 LSA.
Removing and Replacing a cam should run anywhere from 11-17 hours labor, so @$75 per hour you're looking at a minimum of $825 plus say $500 for the cam making a total of at least $1,325. (Unless you're capable of doing the R & R yourself). So I agree with SDMForever is it worth 30-40HP? If you're going to go to that much work I think you'd be better off waiting until you can do new heads & headers at the same time since it wont be much more (labor wise) and make better use of your new cam and gaining 70 or more HP. At this point you may be better off getting a really good dyno tune. You'd be amazed what a good tuner can do.Michael

EXACTLY!!! It will turn into so much more work and money then you think. You will feel a 40 hp increase but you WILL want more in the future. Like I said get a budget planned out and figure out what you want out of the car and ask one of us the best way to get what you want out of the car. I am now on my third ls6 build for myself. This ones a 402 stroker that will run twin turbos. I planned what I wanted to do for at least a month.

SDMForever that stroker sounds like it's going to be a mean machine. Good luck with it and please let us know when you get it done!!!
