ok guys i have a 00 camaro ss. i am swaping a 90/90 intake combo. i am putting th larger lid on there and i was wondering if a 90 mm mass air flow sensor off of a 05 gto will work on my car. and please dont just tell me to go with a speed density tune

I would recommend the stock MAF.

do not mess with the stock maf, its not a restriction until 600+ HP and even then it's very minimal. replacing it would be pointless. the maf off the ls2 requires a harness to make it work and then you have to program in the MAF tables into the PCM and get it tuned so everything is smooth again so you can see 2 more HP

Yup, what he said. Spend the $300 on something worthwhile, like suspension upgrades.

I agree with Mr. Luos. Go with the stock MAF.

    maf meters

    Hi Guys,

over here in australia it is common practice to remove the maf meter and retune with ls1edit. makes great power difference once done properly.

just an idea for you. check out the australian site of ls1 and do some research as some of the sponsors on the site do mail order tunes. and twin turbo setups on our version of the gto (monaro over here)

    Pointless waste of money...

Lemme get this straight, in australia you just take off the MAF completely? Interesting... dont see the car running too well like that, maybe you mean descreened/ported?

I guess they have there own way of doing things.
I'll add my two cents and agree with above your stock maf. should do just fine until you hit around 600 hp.

no he means taken off completely. it's called speed density. GM has flip flopped back and forth over the years. with FI, GM started of with a MAF in 1985. then, went to SD in 1989. the went back to MAF in 1994. this was on the f-body cars. the LS1 has both a MAF and a MAP. so, it's easy to convert over. just need a more finite tune. MAF is a more forgiving tune. because it actually reads the amount of incoming air versus SD which calculates the volume of air based on rpm, map, and tps reading.

from that description, I would have to say the MAF is better. It uses the actual amount of air, speed density had a lot of room for error.

There are several factors to consider. I personally will leave my MAF on because my cars goals aren't super high but the MAF can be pegged on FI cars especially. There are tons of people that run speed density tunes and it's almost become a common practice.
