My car always backfires especially if i down shift it and coast down a hill - all i can hear is pops and my friends who drive behind me say i shoot big ass flames. I was gonna ask if it means anything bad if my car keeps backfiring, I use 91 only - so i dont know what it could be.

If you are still wondering, I have questions,
did you buy the car new?
    are there any mods?
are any lights on ie. ck eng?

My car did this all the time, and it got worse when I put a cutout on it, I bought it used and found out later that it was still tuned for mods, that didn't exist any longer. And the dealership had no clue what was wrong, read fine on their diagnostic and computer checks. So my advise to you would try gettin it tuned and not with a hypertech III (bought it and it didn't fix it) or predator, take it to a tuner. It makes a hell of a difference, not to mention the cost is pretty dam close to the same programmer vs. a real tune.

Backfiring out the tail pipes means its way to rich...Fuel is actually igniting in the exhaust!

    another possibility -- timing.

my advise, get a tune, that should take care of it, o and while your at it add some mods

Oh yeah, treat your baby well, never put anything less than 90+ octane. or whatever premium is around your area.

I would recommend changing your oil b/c of the heavy richness, it will get into the oil pan and break down the oil REAL fast, causing premature bearing failure... I bet if you smell the dipstick, it will smell like gas.

The car isnt brand new, I am the second owner but I put LT's ORY and an adjustable Borla, fast toys intake, and a P&P TB. I only had it tuned with a handheld on the dyno, Ever since I put the exhaust on thats when my car started to backfire even after a tune. I put nothing but premium in my car, I would never use anything less - I figure its worth the extra .10-.15 cents.

I would venture to say, RETUNE. and get it done by someone reputable.
